Cats are fiercely independent, especially those that have grown up on the streets. They’ve had to learn how to fend for themselves by whatever means necessary.

It can involve hanging out in alleyways and picking through garbage bags tossed out by restaurants. It’s a hard life!

But depending on where they live in the world, they can sometimes rely on the kindness of strangers to give them some much needed love and a little food.

This clever street cat came up with a creative way to score some treats.

Tania Sants was on her way to her local grocery store when she came across this white stray, who looked at her with his big adorable eyes.

Sants approached the cat to pet him, but the cat wanted more than just some love and attention. He was hungry.

He guided her inside the store, walking slowly and looking back at her to make sure she was following his lead.

Curious, and unable to resist the little guy, she did.

And it will come as no surprise, but he lead her all the way to the cat treats aisle!

It’s amazing that he knew exactly where to find them. He must have been “shopping” here before.

He looked Sants directly in the eyes, and then back at the bags of treats. How convenient that they were placed directly at cat eye-level on the shelves!

Sants could tell by the way he was looking at her that he was really hungry. His little routine was so cute, how could she resist? She went to pick up the bag of treats.

The clever feline looked so excited. He put his little paw up on the bag as if to say, “that’s the one”!

Sants went to the counter to pay, and the little guy followed her just to make sure she wasn’t going to change her mind.

She paid the cashier (who had definitely seen this routine before!), opened the bag and gave it to her furry friend, before leaving the store.

Sants thought it would be the last time she ever saw that clever cat, but she was wrong.

The next time she was shopping – there he was again. And not just outside, or in the aisle, but sitting on the bags of treats!

Just look at that little face.

Sants asked the shop keeper for more information about the cat, and found out that he was a regular. He would sit outside every day and wait for generous shoppers to help him out.

The shop keeper didn’t mind having him hang around the store and wanted to help, but couldn’t take the cat home.

Sants wanted to know if her little buddy had a home, or was living on the streets.

The next time she went shopping and found him there yet again, she bought him his treats, and followed him to see where he was going next.

She found what she expected to – that he was living on the streets without any shelter.

She felt so bad, and had developed a relationship with the clever white stray, so she decided to adopt him.

It changed both of their lives for the better!

Sants continued to visit her local shop where she had found the cat, to check in and see if anyone was looking for him, but no one came.

She had found him without a collar, hanging out on the streets every day, and clearly very hungry, so she felt confident that he didn’t already belong to someone else.

The little guy now lives happily with Tania Sants and her other fur baby.

This clever little guy charmed his way right into a loving home, where he will never have to beg for food again.
