Cold, sick stray knocks on woman’s door with a sad expression begging for help

There are a lot of cats in the world.

Many more than we can account for. The unfortunate fact is that a large majority of cats are stray and spend their time wandering around aimlessly outside. The fates that befall them are all different stories. Some cats are born into it, and other cats fall victim to abandonment. But under the right circumstances, a stray cat can become a pet cat once again. Although they may be frightened and wary from spending their time away from people, love and affection do wonders in this world.

This is a story about one such cat named Aslan.

Aslan tried his very best to get by considering his personal circumstances. Sadly, life threw more at him than he could possibly handle. This left him with no choice but to start knocking on doors and asking for help.

In an act of desperation, Aslan came to a woman’s door, right on Valentine’s Day.

She began to hear strange noises coming from her backyard. Upon going outside to investigate, the woman found the frazzled cat, a big orange tabby, meowing and pawing at her door in the snow. Her heart sank.

Instantly, she hopped on the phone with the local animal shelter.

The woman called Marie Simard, the founder of Un Chat à la Fois, a cat rescue clinic in Quebec, Canada. She rushed the cat to the vet, who was able to be seen in a matter of thirty minutes.

“He went into the carrier by himself and once he got to the vet, he was very easy-going, he let the vet do the checkup, the blood test and X-rays, the cat was not feral at all,” Simard said to Bored Panda.

Affectionately, she dubbed him Aslan, drawing her inspiration from the lion in the Chronicles of Narnia series.

“We thought he was a lost cat because he was just too friendly to be born outside. He didn’t have a microchip and was not neutered. We assumed he was left behind by irresponsible owners. We have many cats left behind by people—people that cannot afford to pay the vet care. We checked everywhere for a missing cat but we found nothing.”

Upon inspection, the vet was disheartened to announce that Aslan would not have made it through another winter if he hadn’t begged for help at the woman’s door. Everything had aligned.

“Aslan had rotten teeth, frostbite, a bite wound (he was bleeding somewhere on his body), fleas, worms, he had diabetes and skin allergy. His blood work was very bad and he had to stay hospitalized a few days so he could be stabilized before going to his foster family. He got surgery for his rotten teeth. He also had issues with his eyes, which were taken care of with surgery.”

The love and attention of the staff at the veterinary clinic brought Aslan back to health in a matter of days. He was no sooner ready to finish recovery at a foster home.

When it was time for the foster parents to place Aslan up for adoption, they knew in their hearts his home was there with them.
