Stray dog notices puppy tied to fence and promptly works to set him free

You know that feeling of anger that you get when you see a dog locked up inside a car on a hot summer day?

Well, dogs feel that exact same way when they spot one of their own tied up and with no chance of escape.

One scrappy doggy, in particular, seemed to take it personally when he noticed a sweet pitbull tied up by his leash to a fence. It was almost as if he could put himself in the other dog’s shoes paws, and he was completely shook!

What the brazen floof didn’t know was that the pittie’s owner was inside the shop next door, and he was in no way being abused or neglected.

In fact, the chill pooch was patiently waiting for her return when this random boy hero suddenly busted in on his turf.

But since this was 2019 Russia, regular rules didn’t apply. The lawless stray sauntered right up to the hapless “prisoner” and immediately got to work in setting him free.

The clever dog, who is known to locals as a happy, well-fed stray, made a beeline for the offensive piece of leather.

He didn’t even bother to bark out a friendly hello before he started chewing an escape route for his new buddy.

Where or how this mystery canine acquired the skills to untie a knot in less than 30 seconds is a question that will probably forever go unanswered.

Was he trained as a secret KGB agent in a previous life? Did he escape from his captors in a similar fashion?

Or maybe he just watched one too many episodes of MacGyver and figured that’s how you’re supposed to do it in real life.

Whatever the case may be, the impromptu prison break is absolutely hilarious!

It was filmed by Dmitriy Timchenko when he was visiting the city of Novorossiysk with a friend.

“I’ve seen this stray dog around town many times,” Timchenko told The Dodo. “He always uses the crosswalk to cross the street. He’s a very smart dog.”

At first, the confused pittie resisted being whisked away, but then he realized adventure is so much more fun than being tethered to a hunk of metal all day.

In the video clip, we can see the two dogs happily bounce down the street in full Ferris Bueller’s Day Off mode, besties forever!

Of course, if a human had done any of this, we’d all be crying foul play. But since it was a mischievous dog behind the mayhem, it’s totally adorable and we’re okay with that.

Timchenko and his friend did eventually intervene when they realized the troublemakers were about to ride off into the sunset together.

“We went into the store and called the owner on the loudspeaker,” Timchenko said. “She came outside to get her dog.”

No one really knows what happened to the well-meaning stray, but the people of Reddit made up some alternate happy endings that we can get on board with, including this one from /u/Doylinator:

“I’ll make up the story we want. The pit bull’s human came out, saw what had happened, and brought both dogs home where they ate kibble and slept on soft couches.”

But it’s /u/CounterStreet who provides a snarky takeaway to this story: “It’s a dog-walk-dog world out there.”
