There’s this famous saying about dogs being “man’s best friend.”

Something that has been tested and proven of hundreds of thousands of dogs in stories about their unwavering love and loyalty for their owners.

Little did we know that a dog can also be another dog’s best friend too!

Nobody seemed to care about an injured dog lying on the side of the road!

A German Shepherd named Marley was hit by a car in Muscoy, California, and was badly injured. Lying beside her on the side of a busy road was another stray dog, Murphy.

They both waited for help even though nobody seemed to care about their current situation.

Hours passed and so did the cars, but these two fur warriors refused to give up on each other.

They waited patiently for someone to save them, especially Marley, and it was worth the wait when rescue finally arrived.

Faith Easdale, an animal welfare advocate who is also a rescuer at Dream Fetchers: Project Rescue appeared on the scene like a heaven-sent angel.

“We received a message she was lying on the side of the road,” Easdale told The Dodo. “Marley was in terrible distress and pain and breathing heavily. We weren’t even sure if she was going to make it,” she added.

Marley’s loyal friend, Murphy refused to budge as Faith and another male companion carried the pitiful dog into the rescue vehicle.

“She was very heavy and hard to move, but we did it. Murphy wouldn’t leave her side on the street.”

When the two dogs were finally in the vehicle, Murphy gave Marley the cuddles she needed and made her feel that she wasn’t alone in her battle for survival.

Big surprises come in small packages!

Easdale rushed the dogs straight to the hospital for immediate medical attention. Marley’s X-Ray results then revealed several broken bones and a surprise that, of course, only a mother would know!

The car-struck dog was pregnant with no less than 11 puppies!

Thanks to the animal rescuers, the two stray dogs were finally given decent shelter. In the meantime, they also got to eat regularly and received lots of loves from their big-hearted rescuers, who also chose to foot the bill for Marley’s hospital costs.

Murphy was there during the first few terrifying days for his friend.

Eventually, he realized she was finally safe and now in the good hands of people who were taking care of her. Faith then realized that this loyal furball needed to have a new home while his friend recovered from her injuries.

“He was able to be with her in the hospital but she was so critical that he wanted to go run and play,” she said.

Marley was indeed a brave mother who would endure all kinds of pain for the sake of her puppies.

The brave German Shepherd and soon-to-be-mom was in so much pain, but thankfully there were people there to give her all the support she needed, especially with 11 puppies in her womb.

Her courage and dedication pushed her to give birth. Despite all of her injuries, she was able to deliver all her 11 puppies.

It took a whopping 2 years for Marley to completely recover.

This was made possible by all the people and vets who took care of her during her critical days.

“Marley is just as sweet and beautiful as the day we brought her home. She plays like she has never had a broken bone,” her adopters wrote on Facebook.

Marley’s rescuers were happy and thankful for what a strong mom she had become.

Her puppies are all grown up now, and it couldn’t be more fulfilling to see all their progress.

“She was special and we all knew it. Today, her babies are all grown up and Marley is loved and cherished,” Easdale said.

This story of loyalty and friendship is such an inspiration. It just goes to show that animals also have huge hearts, not only for their human companions, but for their own kind as well.
