When we come across news about how dogs can save lives, we can’t help but think how amazing they are. At the same time, there are also types of news that will make you feel disappointed about our fellow human beings. This story tackles both.

It was December 24, people were busy preparing for Christmas despite the pandemic. Gifts were being wrapped, meals were being prepared. It was that time of the year where we celebrate family and love.

Junrell Fuentes Revilla of Cebu City, Philippines, was riding his motorcycle on a rocky trail. He was on his way home when he noticed a dog running after him. He didn’t really pay attention to the dog; he was still going on his way when again, the dog tried desperately to get his attention.

Junrell stopped and approached the stray dog.

He was shocked as he saw a newborn baby boy crying. It was wrapped in a brown towel with its umbilical cord and placenta still attached.

The baby was abandoned on the grassy space just near a dumpsite.

It was almost Christmas, yet someone decided to leave this precious baby near a dumpsite, where it could easily have died without the help of the dog.

How can the baby’s parents do this?

At the same time, this dog knew that this newborn baby needed help. He was there for the baby and did his best to ask for help. Junrell immediately took the baby and rushed it to the nearest police station. There, the local Department of Social Welfare stepped in and immediately took in the baby.

Because of the dog’s good heart and quick thinking, this newborn baby was saved. The dog had found Junrell and had led him just in time for the baby to be saved.

Thankfully, the baby was in good health.

The news about the dog’s heroism reached the local media, prompting Hope for Strays, a non-profit animal shelter group to rush into the site in hopes of rescuing the stray dog.

As it turns out, the dog had an owner. The heroic dog’s name is Blacky.

The hero dog lives with his loving family along with three other dogs. In no time, Blacky became a worldwide hero! To show appreciation, Hope for Strays, as well as Pawssion Project came together and gave Blacky’s human family groceries, dog food, pet supplies, rice, and even treats!

Blacky deserved this! He’s a true hero!

According to an update, the local police said that they are still trying to trace the identity and whereabouts of the baby’s mother. The baby’s mother and all the people who did this to the poor baby should be punished!

Hope for Strays in Cebu, Philippines posted a photo of Blacky and his family, along with the reward that they received. In the post, they reminded everyone to treasure dogs.

“This is a reminder to everyone that dogs are like family. Please treasure them too, they too can save lives. 🐾”

We’re so proud of Blacky! He was a hero, and because of him, a little boy’s life was saved.

As we feel hurt and disgusted by the humans who can abandon their own children, we feel proud and happy that we have dogs. These dogs deserve our respect and love and proof that they can and will save lives.
