There is an old saying that you’re lucky to find even just one true friend in a lifetime. If that’s true, then a homeless man named César must be one of the luckiest people in the world. He hasn’t found just one true friend to share his life with, he’s found four, and they’re all stray dogs.

The pack lives together on the streets of Rio do Sul, Brazil.

Even though they don’t have any material wealth, they are richer than most. This is something that hospital worker, Cris Mamprin, got to witness for herself not too long ago.

Mamprin was working her regular night shift at Hospital Regional Alto Vale when she first met César.

It was around 3:00 a.m. when the homeless man came to request emergency treatment for an ongoing health condition he has, but he wasn’t alone. The pack of stray dogs had followed him to the hospital, proving just how valuable their friendship really is. They refused to let him go it alone.

When Mamprin noticed the stray dogs anxiously waiting for their friend, she also noticed something else about them. They were incredibly healthy-looking. Not a single one looked like they were lacking proper care.

“They are all well taken care of and chubby. Seeing them like that, waiting at the door, only shows how much they are cared for and loved” Mamprin recalls in an interview with The Dodo.

Touched by the moving scene of the stray dogs anxiously waiting to see their human again, Mamprin expressed her thoughts on Facebook.

“A simple person, without luxury, who depends on the help to win hunger, cold, pain, wickedness of the world, has by his side the best companions, and the exchange is reciprocal,” she wrote.

While it was touching to see the extent of the stray dogs’ unbreakable bond to César, such a bond is not uncommon between homeless people and street dogs. Once a dog feels bonded to a person, there is nothing that will trump that connection. Regardless of whether you have a home or not, a dog’s love stays true to the end. A fact that is well known by César.

As Mamprin talked with César about the loyal stray dogs, he confessed he will often forgo eating so that he can feed his devoted companions instead. Knowing that he would put the dogs first like that made her heart swell.

“Exchange of love, affection, warmth, understanding,. A person who confess to us that he stops eating to feed them. I don’t know how his life is, why he’s on the street, and I don’t even want to know and judge him, but I admire the respect and love he has for his pets,” Mamprin’s post goes on.

Indeed, one look at the stray dogs makes it obvious that they are beyond well-cared for. They are incredibly loved, and they clearly share that love for César.

Another picture shows the dogs as they settle in to wait for their homeless friend. They were well behaved as they sat in the entranceway, but it was clear they were eager to be reunited with César.

It took around an hour for César to finish receiving his treatments. Still moved by the heartwarming scene of the dogs, Mamprin and the staff decided to let them in while they wrapped up paperwork.

After seeing the heartwarming reunion of the stray dogs with César, the whole staff felt moved.

“Seeing them like this, waiting at the door, just shows how well care and loved they are. Oh if everyone was like this…. if there was no evil, abuse…. ,” Mamprin’s post concludes.

That’s one sentiment we can all agree with. César is a truly blessed man indeed, to have so many faithful, loyal, loving friends. We’re happy that in this crazy world, they know they always have each other. After all, who needs a house when you have a family as big and loving as his?
