Stray German shepherd that looked like a “werewolf” makes a remarkable recovery

King was a stranded dog loitering on the side of the road in Madera Ranchos, California. He looked frail and weak and was also covered in scabs.

People who saw King were not able to figure what kind of animal he was, thus giving him the name “Werewolf.”

(And also because King kind of looked like a monster to most of them.)

But this Werewolf’s life was about to change with the help of a woman named Megan Bowe.

Megan Bowe, the founder of Bowe’s Adoptable Rescue Pups, learned about King online and she rushed immediately to the dog’s side. Once she arrived, Bowe got emotional as she saw the stray dog. It was sicklier and frailer than she had ever imagined.

In an interview she said: “I was about ready to cry when I saw how bad off he was”. She also added “He was really on his last leg. He was depressed and could barely even stand up.”

At first glance, Bowe already knew what kind of animal “Werewolf” was. It was a very sick German Shepherd. After bringing King to an emergency vet, the sick dog was diagnosed with a long list of ailments including scabies, a broken pelvis, and a severely broken tail.

The vets guessed that King was hit by a car when he was only a year old.

Months after Bowe and King met, Bowe and a team of expert veterinarians nursed the sick dog back to health – but this was no easy task. It required a lot of time and care, including a variety of medications, surgery, physical therapy.

With the help of Bowe and the team of expert veterinarians, the light came into the King’s eyes. His fur started growing back and he was able to walk again.

After the recovery, King showed his true nature as a sweet loving dog. Bowe said: “If I sit down, he has his face right next to mine and leans in as if he’s giving me a hug.”

King is clearly showing his gratitude to Bowe for her saving him and nursing him back to health.

Now that King was fully recovered, he was available for adoption at the end of summer. He didn’t know it at first, but the perfect family had been cheering him on online throughout his entire ordeal.

Tiana Bisbee and her family had been keeping a watchful eye on Facebook posts about the dog’s recovery and rehabilitation process. The said family already had three dogs and hoped to adopt another to join their pack.

In an interview, Bisbee said: “We’d never seen any dog in such bad shape as he was. […] It was so sad. I had been watching his progress, so that’s when we knew we wanted to meet him.”

The Bisbee family adopted King later on. He got along marvelously with their other three canines too.

Now, King is as fluffy and healthy as ever and enjoying his new life to the fullest. His new family loves him so much — and will never forget just how far their “werewolf dog” has come.
