People complain about stray kitten at law office, so they make him a lawyer

Kittens are irresistible animals and everybody seems to find them cute.

Or, at least they do when they’re family pets, that is, because when they’re stray… well, let’s just say people don’t go all that crazy about stray cats.

One such stray was Leon, a tiny kitten from Brazil.

The kitty used to live in the streets and, some time ago during a storm, he found shelter in the building of the Order of Attorneys of Brazil, which is basically the Brazilian Bar Association.

“In February it rains a lot in the state of Amapá (Amazonia), so he arrived at OAB fleeing from the rain and thunder. For a week, he was fed and protected in a box,” Leon’s representatives told Bored Panda in an interview.

Since then, he roamed the reception of the OAB, welcoming the newcomers, which, while for some was a cute sight, it seemed to be rather unpleasant for others.

Soon, people started filing complaints about Leon’s presence in the building, claiming that he had no place in a “serious institution”.

“Unfortunately, some people started to file some complaints,” Dr. Jeanette Laredo wrote in a Facebook post, “about the fact that at the reception desk there was a stray cat hanging around and trying to make friends with the newcomers.”

This made employees at the OAB think seriously about how they were going to proceed with the complaints, and they came up with an original idea- hire the cat as an employee.

He’s now Dr. Leon the Advogato and he even has his own employee badge.

“So, now,” Dr. Laredo went on in her post, “it’s official this little fellow is responsible for welcoming the newcomers (whether they like it or not).”

But, it appears the cat was such a hard-working employee that he soon got a promotion.

After a while, he became a lawyer.

Since then, he has been neutered and examined by a vet, who found that his vocal cords were damaged when he was a baby, which is why he hardly meows nowadays.

The whole story of Dr. Leon inspired the OAB to start an animal rights institute.

“We are finalizing the documents to launch an animal rights institute. It’s called Instituto Dr. Leon. Unfortunately, we cannot house all [the animals], so we will fund the NGOs in town. We will be an example for Brazil [to follow],” Leon’s representatives added in the interview with Bored Panda.

Today, Dr. Leon’s got his very own Instagram account, which has gone viral! The lawyer cat has more than 117k followers and everyone has a positive comment about him.

Of course, Dr. Leon is not the first cat that has a job. There have already been others before him.

Like, for instance, Tama, stationmaster at Kishi train station in Japan. Or Morris, the advertising mascot for 9Lives cat food.

And, of course, who could forget the black-and-white sweetheart El Candigato Morris, the cat who ran for president in Mexico a few years ago. So apparently, cats can work and they are actually very successful employees.
