Stray pup tirelessly chases down van in Spain until the family adopts her

Fil and Martina Russo caught the most unexpected of sights on the Spanish countryside.

It was a tiny dog sprinting by their car with surprising persistence.

Though it was that persistence that led Fil and Martina to realize that something was wrong.

The dog was a Shorkie, meaning it was a cross between a Shi Tzu and a Yorkshire Terrier. Neither of those parent breeds is exactly long-legged or suited for running.

The way this Shorkie ran alongside their car seemed less like persistence and more like a cry for help.

“We were driving in the middle of the Spanish countryside, and suddenly this dog appeared out of nowhere and started chasing our car.”

They pulled over and picked up the dog.

Things were just as they expected. Its fur had grown unhealthily long and it had ticks all over its body. It was a clear sign of a neglected dog as if the scrawniness didn’t make that clear already.

First order of business was to see if the dog’s owner could be found.

Fil and Martina asked house after house in the villages if anyone knew the dog. They learned the next day that the dog was female, wasn’t spayed, and lacked a chip.

Not one person seemed to recognize it. That’s pretty strange since the dog was a mix of two popular breeds.

“We kept on searching for her owners in local Facebook and Whatsapp groups, local passers-by at the fountain, and shops, but eventually weeks went by, and no one came forward, so we decided to keep her.” – Martina said to People.com

The Shorkie, who they named Moxie, got the full family dog treatment.

They groomed her hair, fed her, and take her with them on road trips. It’s a fitting change of lifestyle since they found her on the road. Now she gets to live the better kind of “On the road”.

Moxie’s new life is up for everyone to see on Instagram. She gets to see mountains, valleys, and every beautiful sunset you can imagine.

That’s quite the upgrade to her old life. It even makes me a bit jealous!

Her family takes her along for every ride. You could call this symbolic almost since she found them by chasing after the very car she gets to ride in now. How’s that view looking, Moxie?

Martina is grateful that they adopted Moxie. They found a loving member of the family in Moxie, one they didn’t know they needed. Talking about the dog more, Martina told People how lovable the Shorkie is.

“She’s very sweet and funny, very playful, loves our cats — to be fair, she loves everything and everyone! (especially cats and kids). We love taking her on adventures, and she makes us laugh every day.”

Yet another reason to adopt!

When you rescue a dog from the streets or the shelter, it very well changes their whole life. You gave them food, shelter, and a family.

Those are irreplaceable things, and your pet will never forget it. Adopt, don’t shop!
