Tiny stray puppy spots a police officer walking up the street and chases him down
Puppy problems have only one solution.
Two Los Angeles police officers found themselves with an interesting âproblem.â
As they were making their usual patrol, they noticed something was stalking them.
Even with their best skills, they struggled to shake the âvisitorâ off their trail. Soon enough, they had no choice but to take it with them.
Officers Mercado and Tavera of the LAPD Hollywood division spotted a puppy following them.
The little dog, with its tiny legs, pitter-pattered behind one of the police officers, seemingly convinced that he was a person worth following.
The tiny puppy persued them persistently.
The officers tried talking to him.
They mustâve thought that someone owns it and it just got out of the property.
It might also be that they canât really bring a puppy with them during patrols.
He was “taken into custody”.
When the officers realized that the dog was not going anywhere, they decided to take him into custody.
They named the puppy Hobart, after the street where they found him.
The officers were not sure where Hobart came from.
Further investigation revealed Hobart was abandoned.
In a tweet, the police department shared that theyâve found the owner.
Unfortunately, the owner admitted they were unable to take care of poor little Hobart.
The puppy was then endorsed to a shelter so it could be fed, tended to, and provided for.
The officers had other plans though and took the puppy for a ride first. In a photo posted on the departmentâs social media accounts, Hobart had a great time.
âNewest member of our K-9 unit,â the post said, âOfficers Mercado & Tavera found a puppy while on patrol near Hobart Blvd, they took him back to the station and have officially renamed him, âHobartâ Welcome to LAPD Hobart!â
Hobart was a deviation from an optimistic trend, however.
At the tail-end of the pandemic, people feared there would be a spike in animal abandonment or surrender.
As people go back to their normal routines, those who got pets may have found themselves suddenly unable to care for them.
In Los Angeles, however, the numbers seem to point to a decline in such cases.
The Los Angeles Animal Services, in one instance, recorded a 45% decrease in animal intakes in 2020 compared to 2016.
This doesnât mean that animal abandonment is widely absent. There are still animals that need help, much like little Hobart.
With a little convincing and a whiff of realization, Hobartâs future changed.
From following a police officer down the road, Hobart got the chance to live with one of them â not as a foster, but as a part of the family.
Hobart makes the perfect partner.
ââȘUpdate on Hobart!â the police department proudly announced, âA lot of you have been asking what Hobart is up to these days. You will be happy to know Officer Mercado has adopted him and he is now living the good life with Mercado and his family!â
Ghetto Rescue, the organization that made the adoption happen, described him as the âmost loving and lively puppy.â As for Officer Mercado, itâs something he surely knows by now.
