Street buskers are all around the streets (before the pandemic) of the world. They perform almost any kind of performance to entertain a crowd and they hope to get donations in return.

For a street busker who sings, meeting the original artist of the song is probably a dream come true.

Though they are most of the time around a bunch of people every day, still- chances of bumping into their idols are pretty much slim to none.

However, when this once in a blue moon chance takes place, it’s always a big deal. It will startle you, make you speechless, and even move you to tears.

This man in the video luckily meets the original artist of the song that he’s covering. He’s even luckier because that once in a lifetime moment was all caught on video.

This handsome busker is singing “Smalltown Boy” by Bronski Beat.

He is leaning against the wall and singing the beautiful song with his acoustic guitar. He’s just doing his daily routine as a street performer. And as he sings, his cap is in front of him, ready to collect donations from the kind and generous audience.

At the 25-second mark of the video, an unexpected guest appears.

Jimmy Sommerville of Bronski Beat shows up out of nowhere and begins to sing along with the guy! For those who don’t know it yet, Sommerville is the original singer of “Smalltown Boy” and their unexpected duet was awesome!

This rare incident happened in Berlin.

It’s an ordinary day for all, even to the street performer. He has a couple of fellas watching him and they seem to enjoy his simple jam along the street. Then suddenly here comes a passerby with his dog, he stops to listen and then joins the busker in his performance.

Thankfully, that day cameras were rolling to record the guy’s street performance.

At first, he didn’t recognize who his unexpected guest was.

At one point in the video, he even said, “Oh wait, one two three!”

On the other hand, some of his viewers have already recognized that the guy is none other than Sommerville.

If the original artist of a song hears you and sings along with you, then that only means one thing – you’re good!

We bet that the guy never thought that one day, he’d meet Somerville- not in a concert or music festival but on the street. Surprises do really happen when you least expect it.

Somerville, however, just sang along with the guy as if there’s nothing special about it. He didn’t act so big about it. What a humble guy!

At the end of his performance, the guy said, “Is it you?”

Somerville was so entertained and he shook the busker’s hand after their duet.

Then he said, “Well done! It’s a hit! It’s a hit! It’s me! It’s me!”

It’s not everyday that we get to see a down-to-earth ’80s classic artist on the street.

When the video was taken in 2013, Somerville was already 52 years old.

Despite his age, he still had this distinguished voice of his.

In 1983, he co-founded the group Bronski Beat. Their biggest hit was “Smalltown Boy” which reached No. 3 in the UK charts.

After leaving Bronski Beat, he had another group (a duo) called “The Communards” that became active from 1985 to 1988. Then he went solo from 1989 up to present. He continues to perform today as a solo artist and 2020 is full of upcoming concerts all over the UK.

The video amassed a whopping 10.4 million views on Youtube since it was uploaded.

Realizing that he just had a duet with Somerville came in a little bit late for him. We’re sure that after that precious encounter, it took him days to process what just happened. We bet that he will never forget that moment for the rest of his life.

It’s just a beautiful sight to see a well-known music artist, wrapped with so much humility and doing a random act of genuine kindness like this. He is a star, yes he is- but he didn’t let the fame get inside his head.
