Struggling bakery in disbelief when a customer buys 1 donut for $1000

These trying times have taken a huge toll on small businesses. With the elimination of dine-in guests, hours have been cut drastically and sadly people have been laid off. Times are tough in a socially distanced world but there are people who continue to spread kindness and love.

Generosity goes a long way even if that’s just a simple hello, but for this Ohio bakery, they were in for a huge treat and not just the ones they’re baking.

The Tremont Goodie Shop in Upper Arlington, Ohio is a family-owned bakery who has been baking with love for over 60 years.

These difficult times have greatly impacted their usual flow of businesses and they’ve had to change to take-out orders only with modified hours.

But recently, a generous customer paid the local bakery $1000 for just a single donut!

This generous patron had been a regular at the bakery for 40-50 years and knew the extra cash couldn’t hurt.

Emilie Smith who is the manager of the local bakery explained what she thought to be just another phone order.

But it was much more than that, she said,

“He called and asked us if he would be able to give us $1,000 for his doughnut”

“I got choked up. He asked again ‘would that be ok?’ because there was silence on the line”

“I choke out, ‘yes, of course, it would be ok!, I never expected that.”

Smith was left speechless after that surprising phone call.

She even went to Facebook where they posted a picture of the $1000 custard donut!

This isn’t the first random act of kindness that this regular has done for the Tremont Goodie Shop.

He’s been known to bring in pizza for the employees but was taking a break from the baked goods to “lose weight” Smith explained. With the global pandemic of COVID-19, it’s been tragic for locally-owned businesses, some have even had to close permanently.

Kindness Is On Their Side

As for the Tremont Goodie Shop, they’ve been fortunate enough to scrape on by during the pandemic, bringing in less than 1/3 of their usual income. But when their generous regular came to pick up his delicious custard donut Smith said,

“He said I really needed to support you.”

Smith added, “He’s the kind of guy that just lights up the room when he’s here”

People on Facebook’s heart’s melted after hearing about the bakery’s generous customer. One customer even wrote,

“That is absolutely amazing! I am so grateful for folks who can do something like that. Can’t think of a better business to support!”

This customer’s kind-hearted act has definitely gone a long way by helping this 60-year-old business stay open! It’s so important that we come together during these dark times even if you can’t give $1000, every bit matters. It can be the purchase of one donut or even a mask donation. Every gesture matters to let people know they’re not alone in these times of need. If you can, support your small and local businesses.
