Teacher asked to come on stage, student serenades her with unexpected song moving her to tears
Studying is over-rated! Did you know that you can just sing a great tune for your teacher and get an A that way?
Well, that is actually what a young high schooler decided to do when he hopped on the stage at school. He re-wrote “Hey Jude” by the Beatles for his AP History teacher. The assignment was to act and perform as a pop celebrity from one of the many decades in the last century. Mitchell Weeks decided to play Paul McCartney and absolutely killed it.
Everyone was totally skeptical when Mitchell first sits down at the piano.
In the beginning, his appearance is shaky, and the microphone won’t stay in the right place. Weeks looks really nervous. Finally, he gets the mic set-up with some help, from his friends. He musters up a “hello” to the crowd. His fellow students give a cheer—and the begins his acting/singing performance.
Nobody was sure what to expect from Weeks, but everyone was a little curious.
When he begins to play, everyone realizes that Weeks is very skilled. But then he starts to play, and it’s clear he’s got some serious instrumental skills. Weeks commences with a piano rendition of “Let It Be.” He belts out the lyrics like a pro, and everyone is doubly impressed—a talented pianist and singer! We assume that his performance will continue to the end in this fashion, but we’re soon proven wrong.
Halfway through “Let It Be” Weeks stops serenading and just plays his piano in the background while a student places a swivel chair on the performance stage.
Then Weeks calls for Miss Dunham, his teacher, to come on stage and join him. The crowd is quiet with a few murmurs. Everyone is wondering what’s going on? Weeks greets his teacher and states out loud “I’d like to serenade you.” That is where we realized that the student was behaving courageously and must have really wanted an A.
Miss Dunham hesitates, and then gets up and sits on the swivel chair, looking very awkward the whole time. Weeks calms her, “You’re going to like this!” as he launches into a special rendition of the pop song “Hey Jude.”
Weeks tweaked the original song, and nobody in the crowd had heard this new version.
Mitchell directs his song at the teacher, reassuring her that the school day is almost over and that her voice will recover. He mentions her tendency to go on and on about topics. His teacher takes all of the words and seems to be enjoying it. Until the emotions just hit her, and she begins wiping tears out of her eyes. Then, Weeks displays his thankfulness for his teacher, by singing, “Hey, Dunham, you rock,” and, “I’ve never met someone quite like yourself.”
At the end of the song, Weeks stands up and offers Miss Dunham a long hug while the audience applauds his performance. We all know what it’s like to be taught by a really outstanding teacher, and Miss Dunham was clearly something special!
Mitchell stands up at the conclusion of the song and offers Miss Dunham a hug while the audience loudly applauds his incredible performance. We have all had incredible teachers, and we know what it’s like to be taught by someone special.
Mitchell definitely did a great job of informing Miss Dunham that she’d made a huge impact on him.
And the best news? Weeks confirmed on his YouTube video that he did indeed get an A for his performance! It would have been almost impossible to grade him any lower, given the circumstances. So what’s the end of the story? Well, Weeks confirmed on one of his YouTube videos that he got an A for his performance. Honestly, we would have been surprised if he had received a lower grade.
We applaud Mitchell Weeks for pulling off such an amazing song! Check it out for yourself in the video below.
