Having an animal around your house for a long time, they eventually feel just like family. You can’t separate the feeling between people and pets cause really, it’s just love. Dogs and cats specifically find a way to climb deep into our hearts.

Math teacher Mrs. Tanya Andrews had a feline friend named Blondie for over sixteen years that passed away, so you can imagine the loss was immeasurable. The loving students at Joshua High School in Texas discovered she was grieving the loss and knew they wanted to help her deal with the trama.

Mrs. Andrews is a proud teacher and despite her loss, she still came to do the job of teaching our young people. She had a job to do and didn’t want the emotional distress to get in the way of that. But the student could tell something was weighing heavy on her shoulders.

Rachel Hanhart was one of the first who noticed that something was wrong. According to her interview with Inside Edition:

“She was sitting at her desk and we were all just doing our work,” she recalled in her interview. “She began crying and we asked her what was wrong. She told us that her 16-year-old cat had died.”

To find out that Mrs. Andrews had lost her cat, it sent the students empathizing. Rachel and the others wanted to do something to ease the pain. But what could they do? It didn’t seem to take too long to come up with a heart-warming plan.

Word got out and one of the student’s mothers began looking for kittens to surprise the teacher with. Luckily they found a pair of kittens that needed to find a forever home. So Rachel and the students began to prepare the surprise. They bought flowers, balloons, cupcakes and brought the two little furballs along with them to school.

There were a lot of nerves from the students but also a lot of anticipation.

“We all were emotional before even entering the room. Not upset by any means, but more anxious than anything,” Rachel recalled.

The students slowly entered the classroom but the energy level started to gain some momentum. Mrs. Andrews could see the balloons and the flowers coming… The teacher was handed the flowers and said: “thank you.” She hugged the kids and saw her balloons and cupcake.

She thought that it was a wonderful offering, but she didn’t know the best part that she hadn’t noticed yet.

Mrs. Andrews saw the two kittens and let out a gasp. You could tell she was blown away and said: “are those mine?”

Without anyone replying, she knew she had some new friends to bring to her home. The two cute kittens had red ribbons on just to add to the proper surprise.

Fortunately, one of Rachel’s fellow students captured the moment and put it on her twitter for the world to enjoy.

“Mrs. Andrews began to cry because of the flowers, but then she saw the kittens and I don’t even know how to describe her reaction. It was amazing. I think at that point everyone had tears in their eyes,” Rachel shared with Inside Edition.

Mrs. Andrews was more than happy to welcome the kittens. She now has names for them; Missy and Girlie.

We can all appreciate the compassion these high schoolers showed for their teacher.
