Getting a pet is a huge commitment, so giving one as a gift is often a bad idea.

But it might be different if you’re married to that person and you know it’s what they want.

Daniel Toto suffered the loss of his beloved dog 5 years ago and had talked about getting another. But timing is everything.

But after their wedding earlier this year, Daniel’s wife Ashley decided that after putting up with years(!) of wedding planning, it was time to make his dream come true.

She wrote in a Facebook post:

“If you know Dan.. you know that there is one thing in the whole world he has wanted, for as long as I can remember. After dealing with my wedding planning over the last 3 years, and giving me the wedding of my dreams…. thought my St. Bernard could wait… and he deserved something a little special for his birthday this year.’

Ashley isn’t in the room but someone is there recording Daniel opening his birthday gift, which looks like an Apple Watch.

“Oh my goodness, this is fancy,” David says.

But upon opening the box, he sees it’s something else. A leather bracelet? What kind of prank is this? He’s very confused, but as the gears turn he has a suspicion about what’s going on.

It turns out that the gift is actually a dog collar.

He’s in a bit of shock as the whole situation sinks in. Then he calls out for his wife.

When she walks into the room, we can’t see her, but we can see Daniel’s reaction – he buries his head in his hands as she comes in carrying his brand new puppy.

It’s not a St. Bernard but the German Shepherd puppy that Daniel had always wanted. And he’s overcome with emotion.

As he sobs, Ashley brings the calm puppy to him in her arms, handing him off to his new dad.

Daniel gazes adoringly on his new puppy and the surprise has gone off without a hitch.

When Ashely first uploaded the video to TikTok, it went viral. Now it has been liked over 952,000 times since late June!

The couple has since posted tons of photos of their new furbaby on all of the social media accounts.

It’s pretty clear that the dog – who they named Montgomery, or Monty for short – is well-loved and much appreciated.

What an amazing birthday surprise!

Ashley posted another tribute video to her husband as well, this time on Facebook. Her caption read:

“HAPPY 25TH BIRTHDAY DANNY-T
