Friendly fox snuggles up to man sitting in pub beer garden

“It’s just a man and his fox”

Gary Sines and his partner, Lindsay Rolfe, were nearly speechless when they got a visit from an unexpected guest at a London beer garden. As they sat down for a pint, a very friendly fox hopped up beside Sines and made himself comfortable.

Seeing a fox is one thing, but the two were in awe at how nonchalant it acted being right beside them. It was definitely the start of a beautiful friendship.

“Oh my God, I’m literally going to cry,” said Rolfe.

Not knowing how or why the fox made his way to the pub, Lindsay decided to film the special interaction. Gary started to stroke the fox on the head like he would any dog or cat. He obviously thought it was the right thing to do. The fox didn’t seem to mind either as he cuddles into Gary.

“It was absolutely bizarre. I was worried about getting bit at the beginning.”

An animal lover himself, Sines was shocked to be so close to the fox but didn’t mind the company. Red foxes are typically adapted to suburban and rural communities. However, there are many that make their homes in urban areas like London.

“Over the last 20 years, the number of urban foxes in the UK has increased fourfold. There’s now one for every 300 humans in England.” – Metro.co.uk

Although red foxes live solitary lives, they are becoming more accustomed to people in urban areas. Some believe that they are evolving to become more domesticated.

Foxes are considered very cunning and smart because of their ability to find food even during the winter.

Foxes are omnivores and eat whatever is available. They primarily eat rodents, rabbits but will also eat birds, amphibians and fruit.

They are incredibly resourceful and will steal food from garbage cans, gardens and farms. People have been known to feed the foxes in urban areas, however, there is no need as food is readily available.

“Are you coming home with us Georgie?”

Giving the fox a name, Lindsay jokes with Gary about possibly taking the fox home. Something tells us “Georgie” wouldn’t mind at all.

“The kids would love a pet fox,” Rolfe joked.

The couple can only laugh, smile and enjoy the moment as the fox rests his head on Gary. Foxes are actually part of the dog family…so it’s possible their little friend here was just trying out his dog hat for the day.

“It was surreal for me because I am a massive dog lover. This will probably never happen ever again.”

Maybe it was the ginger beer or the ginger beard that attracted the little fellow to Sines. Whatever it was, he felt right at home by his side. Gary must have sensed he needed a little TLC. One thing is certain, Gary and his partner Lindsay will never forget this heartwarming encounter with their urban fox friend…now forever known as Georgie.
