Little boy abandons play area to sit with police office sitting alone in food court
Most kids like to, well, be kids. If there is a play area nearby, they will most likely be in it. If there are any toys to amuse them, they will be playing with them. They have no time for hanging out with boring old adults! They would rather climb stuff, eat stuff that’s not meant to be eaten, and throw toys around.
Not all kids are like that though. Some children are a little more grown-up in that way. Sometimes a child actually chooses to go spend some time with an adult… And it can be really adorable.
Oliver Navejar is a 5-year-old from Omaha, Nebraska and he is a perfect example of this.
5-year-old Oliver Navejar was playing in a playpen until he saw a cop sitting alone.
He was in a playpen at the Westroads Mall when he saw a police officer sitting and eating alone. He quickly took notice and disliked the image of the older man eating alone, so he decided to leave the play area paradise to keep the man company.
After the little boy’s sweet gesture, his mother, Nicole, talked to WOWT about it, “He talks about kindness daily. I mean, it’s a pretty constant thing.”
Clearly, Oliver practices what he preaches… And he is definitely not like most children because of that.
Oliver’s other mother, Danielle, posted about the moment on Facebook, where the story quickly went viral since everyone was in such disbelief. How could a little boy be so kind?!
Danielle wrote about her son’s excitement when he spotted the police officer: “Tonight I saw Oliver’s eyes light up like I never have before. We were at the mall and he was mid tuck and roll in the play area when I saw his eyes shift to something behind me.”
After getting his mom’s permission, he started to make his way over to the police officer to ask if he can sit with him.
“Without hesitation, he ran over and said, ‘Sir could I please sit with you?’”
What makes it so sweet is that not only did the cop say yes, but the two ended up sitting and talking for a solid 45 minutes. Danielle barely had the strength to order their food, she was so in awe of her son’s good spirit and pure intentions.
“I was getting him food, and I was, like, crying the whole time. I couldn’t even order,” Danielle wrote.
Most adults today wouldn’t express such kindness in such a direct manner. Usually, if we see someone sitting alone, we notice and pass by. Or sometimes we don’t even notice. But for Oliver, it is much more simple than that.
He explains: “The policeman was sitting alone, so I wanted to be nice to him. So I went over to talk to him and see if I could eat with him… When someone is nice to me, I’ll be nice to them.”
Well, I think all of us adults can learn a thing or two from this 5-year-old. Nice going, Oliver!
