Swing dancers start with a smile – then have crowd roaring as they shake a move to ‘Hey Baby’
Swing dance became popular back in the 1920s to 1940s or what we call the “swing era”. This classic style of dance, however, is still widely being practiced and loved by many people from today’s generation.
Just take this powerhouse dancing-duo as an example.
Watching them will give you the throwback feels – actually, this video of them somehow paints a glance back in time. You’d probably think that you’re watching some old video clip from the past.
Did you know that the term “Swing” was actually referred to as the style of jazz music?
It eventually inspired the evolution of the dance, in fact, it wasn’t until the latter half of the 20th century when “Swing dance” was identified as a group of dances.
Also, Wikipedia said that the term “swing dancing” is…
“often extended to include other dances that do not have certain characteristics of traditional swing dances: West Coast Swing, Carolina Shag, East Coast Swing, Hand Dancing, Jive, Rock and Roll, Modern Jive, and other dances developed during the 1940s and later. A strong tradition of social and competitive boogie woogie and Rock ‘n’ Roll in Europe add these dances to their local swing dance cultures.”
Are you ready to meet our dancers?
The stars of the video are none other than Nils Andrén and Bianca Locatelli.
These world-class dancers are full-time swing dance instructors, performers, and choreographers.
Their love for dance started early when they were just kids. They have performed and competed with other partners before they even met. They also do dances like ballet, lindy hop swing, Latin dances, hip hop, ballroom, and the Swedish bugg.
Their paths crossed and soon, they became partners when Bianca moved to Sweden.
She was just 16 and that’s when they started performing and competing together.
They are not only talented but they also have this burning passion and genuine love for dance that keeps them doing what they’re doing.
“They love to teach what they believe in all around the world. It gives them inspiration, happiness and satisfaction. Bianca and Nils like to bring their love for the dance through energy and enthusiasm on stage and they like to make all their students feel comfortable in expressing themselves through their dancing.”
They rise to any occasion
Two years ago, during the 2018 “Rock That Swing Festival” at the Deutsches Theater München in Munich, Germany, Bianca and Nils showed everyone what they’re capable of.
The couple is already itching to show the people what they can bring to the table. It’s not like they want to impress them, but more of the hunger to express their unparalleled love for swing dance.
It’s true that they’ve been doing this for quite a while now, but their excitement and happiness whenever they do it never seems to fade – not even the slightest.
Masters – that’s what they should be called!
They started their routine with a smile, Nils was even pointing at someone from the crowd, it’s like he was saying, “watch me!”
Just seconds after, they immediately sparked the dance floor with their high-caliber movements. They did their routine with high-precision and their coordination was top-notch!
Their whole performance was filled with smooth transitions from the fast hip twists, turns, pivots, spins, and oh, yes, we are not forgetting their fancy footwork.
They’re so light on their feet, they almost looked like they’re joyfully gliding on butter.
To top their performance, look at what they’re wearing during that event. Their outfit from head to toe, and Bianca’s hairstyle, it’s like watching a couple who came from the past generation. They are definitely a total package!
There’s no wonder why their video has already gained a massive amount of attention on the internet.
The YouTube video showcasing their dancing prowess was uploaded by Rock That Swing and has already amassed 15.2 million views!
