John Lindo and Deborah Szekely are a great dancing couple. They may not be together in real life, but you’d think otherwise if you saw their onstage chemistry.
Some people defy commonly held perceptions. John Lindo doesn’t have the physique that most people associate with professional dancers. But he can move like the best of them!
And when Lindo got the opportunity to perform in a swing dancing competition with the incredibly skilled Deborah Szekely, everyone was wowed.
The two had been practicing for months. Both of them knew that their natural talents combined well. But they had to make their dance routine a showstopper. So they honed their moves and made something that they hoped would impress anyone who saw it.
On the day of the competition, the two nervously awaited their moment. They had both been confident in their skills, but what would the judges think?
They were called to the stage and both gave the other a supportive hug. Clearly, their affection for one another was strong, even after months of practice.
Then One Drop of Love by Ray Charles started playing. This wasn’t your typical swing song, but that wouldn’t stop these dancers from moving to it like it was one!
The dancers stayed close to one another and started moving to the music. Lindo and Szekely both showed off their amazing timing.
By the time the lyrics started, the pair had already managed to get a huge cheer from the crowd. And they’d only just begun!
Then, after Lindo and Szekely had swung around the stage a few times, they decided that it was time to really break out the moves. Szekely did the splits and rose straight back up to everyone’s amazement.
Lindo span Szekely under his arm very rapidly. Szekely went round and round at an incredible speed until Lindo also span himself around while still holding on to Szekely. Their eyes met, and they froze for a moment on the stage before getting back into their routine.
And the incredible moves weren’t over yet. Lindo held onto Szekely as she slid across the floor and hopped back onto the stage.
Then the two gracefully moved until the song faded out. When the performance ended, the dancers bowed to the crowd. Everyone watching got to their feet to applaud Lindo and Szekely.
Unsurprisingly, the judges decided to award the couple first place in that competition, and it’s not hard to see why!
Luckily, this prize-winning performance was uploaded to YouTube, where it went viral. In fact, to date, over 6.1 million people have watched the video. It also has 3,800 likes and many comments.
People have been saying things like this:
Since this performance, both Lindo and Szekely have gone on to great things.
Lindo has won Swing Dancing competitions across America. In fact, he has come first place in the US Open, Grand Nationals and the Phoenix Champion of Champions. Szekely has won eight Grand National titles and has been inducted into the Dallas Dance and California Swing Dance halls of fame.
Thanks to Lindo and Szekely bringing out the best in each other during that one competition, they have since managed incredible achievements. If only we could all encourage and help each other like that!
