Adorable “T-Rex” kitten ends up being rescued by the purrfect dad

Who said T-Rex has gone extinct? He’s very much alive and kicking, and in fact, is a pet!

Well, not really, but Mercury the kitty has been given the nickname T-Rex by his parents because he looks like one due to an accident he had when he was just a kitten.

“They were clearing out tall grass,” his dad said of the people who cut his arms with a weedwacker, “and we think it was completely by accident.”

So he was taken to a vet to be taken care of, and that’s where he met his future parents. Mom and dad had been volunteering for a cat rescue, specializing in little kittens, so the vet thought they were ideal to care for the poor kitten that had just lost his arms.

The couple thought since he was in dire need to help and care, and since he was otherwise pretty healthy, they might as well take him home. And that’s what they did.

So Mercury had just found a new home. He was so tiny, but still so brave and active. His new parents tried to do the best for him to adapt to the new environment as smoothly as possible. And it turned out this was not difficult at all. Mercury fit right in- he got used to his new home and his new crew. And, most importantly, his health and strength were improving day by day and he was becoming a mighty little fighter.

His parents employed various means to help him be functional using only his hind legs. So, they helped him crawl from the very first days, and little by little, they introduced him to the stairs.

“We bought lots of stairs,” Mercury’s dad told The Dodo, “so that he could get up on the bed and on the couch.”

However, this wasn’t an easy venture for Mercury. First, he had to learn how to climb a little cardboard step, and then, once he had mastered that, he had to learn the real steps. Now he can easily climb and jump, although he sometimes misses.

“To be honest, he’s missed a few times,” daddy explains, “and he’ll land and when he lands after he’s missed, he acts very embarrassed. It’s like ‘Yep, I meant to do that.'”

Now that some time has passed, Mercury and daddy have developed a very special bond and they share mutual feelings of love.

His dad explains that this special cat has taught him to never give up and never give in. He has realized that there is always a way to do things, even unconventional ones, but the mindset should always be that you will make it.
