Tap dancing trio delivers rousing routine at World Tap Dance Championships
The 2015 International Dance Organization (IDO) World Tap Dance Championships were held in Riesa, Germany, and over 3000 dancers from over 30 nations took part.
But it was three girls who took part in the children’s trio competition that really brought down the house and have earned over half a million views to boot for their performance.
The group is trained at the R+P BRNO dance school in the Czech Republic. They placed 7th out of 15 that year with the overall prize in that category going to Company B from the United States.
Nevertheless, these girls are AMAZING!
In plaid skirts, black vests, knee socks, and giant bows holding back their ponytails they strut onto the stage with all the confidence they’ve earned after what is no doubt years of hard work.
As they each stomp a foot, they turn their backs to the audience in perfect unison, their long hair swinging behind them.
Now they’re ready to blow the crowd away with their skills.
A little over 10 seconds of waiting makes for an even more dramatic start to their performance.
And when the music finally does begin, they shoot apart and begin tapping their feet so quickly that it’s hard to know where to look.
For most people, not only does the routine look exceedingly complex, but the girls perform it with great gusto.
Of course, that didn’t stop people with a couple of lessons under their belt from calling the choreography “too easy” in the comments.
But let’s remember that national and world championships require qualification events and not just anyone can perform at these competitions.
These girls made it to a world competition, unlike anyone from the YouTube peanut gallery.
Of course, some fellow dancers could appreciate the performance.
“I’ve gotta be older than them and they are twice as good as I am,” said one viewer.
As they shuffle, step, and leap across the stage in unison, the crowd cheers.
Sadly, we can’t hear much of the music, but luckily we can hear all that in-sync tapping loud and clear.
After the fancy footwork, the girls are all arms at the end of their performance, adding a little more personality to their routine as they wind things down.
Since they’re performing in the “Children’s” division, they must 12 or younger – so while they likely have years of experience under their belts, they still have long dance careers ahead of them.
Sadly, the event only provides trophies for 1st through 6th places, so the girls missed out on the hardware this time around. But we have no doubt they saw some victories soon after this performance.
The IDO was originally founded in 1981 and since then has increased its membership to over 60 nations and counting.
In addition to holding continental and international competitions, the organization has deep ties to the dance industry and offers education to dancers and teachers alike. They hold multiple competitions each year, but their world championship appears to consistently be held in Riesa, Germany.
That’s where you need to be each December to see the best of the best of the tap dance world.
