Retired teacher shows off comfy new lifestyle after downsizing to tiny home with a hot tub

When we say living tiny, we picture teens who want to be independent and venture into living in a minimalist space that is just right for them.

But they’re not the only ones. Come to think of it, downsizing to a tiny home would also be beneficial for seniors.

The hardest part of transitioning from a full-size home to a tiny one is letting go of all the things that you used to have.

This was Adele Smith’s case.

Adele had been a music teacher in Tennessee for decades and she used to live in a full-size 1,300-square-foot home with her daughter.

As her daughter got older, she decided to move out and that meant Adele had to live alone.

There she realized something.

Her house was too big.

Or, at least for her it was.

“I had a lot of clutter […] and I never touched it,” Adele explained in her interview with Tiny House Giant Journey. “I realized I use this bathroom, […] I sit right here in the living room, […] I go into the kitchen for necessary things, and then my bed.”

That’s when Adele realized she could actually downsize to a comfortable tiny home.

She studied her options and took advice from Tumbleweed House.

She fell in love with a 20-foot home, also a certified RV.

Settling in was a pleasant experience for the retired music teacher.

Her tiny home is on a farm.

She and her sister tend to the many farm animals and plants that they have.

Adele worked with the designers to make sure that her tiny home had all the things she needed and lots of storage space.

As you enter her tiny home, you’ll see a comfy chair and a TV.

She ingeniously uses her storage space.

Just above, you’ll see her storage for her musical instruments and a couple of bungees for smaller instruments.

She uses the ladder that has access to the loft as additional storage for clothes.

There is a fridge and a small kitchen and just above that, she has another smaller bungee where she puts her other stuff.

Adele has a composting toilet, which she says is an amazing option, and also a full-size shower.

Upstairs is her bedroom and according to her, the ladder was perfect because she doesn’t feel any strain going to her loft bed.

Adele’s favorite spot?

It’s her custom-made hot tub that is on her deck.

She said that she loves spending time there no matter what the weather is.

It’s her special place.

After retiring for a year, she later found a part-time job as a music teacher at her local Christian school, and she’s loving it.

Imagine having a dream home that is on a farm, with a hot tub on your deck, and having part-time work where you get to practice your passion.
