Internet technicians enters blind boy’s home and his actions warm mom’s heart

What he did was beyond customer service. It was humanity at its finest.

Jessica Donnahoo was just expecting Robert Kinney, a technician from Spectrum, to set up their TV for streaming. But what she got was a moment of compassion that will restore your faith in humanity.

She shared with Good Morning America that when Kinney came in for the service, her home was in “chaos”.

She was folding the laundry that was covering her couch and was trying to make up for the chores she pushed back. All the while, she was also taking care of her 3-year-old son, Sailor.

When Kinney started working, little Sailor went up to him.

He recognized the man’s presence due to his heightened senses. Sailor was blind since birth. He was diagnosed with optic nerve hypoplasia and Chairi malformation of the brain.

But all of these were unknown to Kinney. All he saw was a little kid with his arms extended towards him and was asking to be carried.

Instead of ignoring him or turning the kid away, Kinney looked at Donnahoo instead to ask if it was okay for him to pick her kid up.

When she seemed okay with it, Kinney scooped him up and bounced him for a bit.

For the whole duration of the service, which lasted for 45 minutes, Kinney didn’t put little Sailor down. The only time he did was when he had to retrieve equipment from his truck or when he had to plug in some devices.

“He would bounce Sailor using one arm to hold him and make internet adjustments with the other. As a momma, I was incredibly grateful for his kindness,” Donnahoo shared the heartwarming moment with Good Morning America.

The grateful mom took a snapshot of them and shared it on her social media accounts.

She also posted a heartfelt letter to Spectrum to accompany the photo. In her post, she shared:

“He snuggled him close while I folded laundry. It was a huge relief to this tired momma. Robert could have walked in, rushed, and left but instead, he saw a need greater than internet and met it. That’s beyond customer service- it’s humanity at its best.”

People around the world were moved by Kinney’s gesture. Her Facebook post has since been shared over 200,00 times.

For Kinney, who’s a single parent to a 4-year-old, it might just a short moment to ease the fussy kid. But for Donnahoo, it’s an unforgettable moment where she didn’t feel judged or neglected. It was a moment of kindness towards her special son, coming from the unlikeliest person.

“I think the reason that this act of kindness has resonated with so many people is that we can all relate — as parents, grandparents or just anyone who has been overwhelmed. In a world of mass shootings, political scandals, and drugs, we all need to be reassured that humanity and kindness still exist. Rob and my post did just that,” she shared with Good Morning America.

But for the Spectrum technician, it’s all about giving credit where it’s due.

Now knowing what Sailor was going through, Kinney instead commended Donnahoo and how she showered her son with unconditional love.

“For them to adopt him and take care of him on a daily basis is much more than what I did for a short period of time,” he shared with Good Morning America, “God really has blessed that family and will continue to do so because of the kind and gentle spirit they have. They deserve more recognition than anyone.”
