Being a teenager is hard for anyone. Daniel Rivas, who is 17 and has Down Syndrome has found fitting in with his class hard. Luckily, some people have made him feel included.
Daniel Rivas is generally a happy person. But sometimes, things happen that make him feel like society doesn’t want him.
Once, this happened when he asked a girl to the homecoming dance and got rejected.
It looked like he would have no one to go to the dance with, until Kylie Fronius asked Daniel if he could be her date.
The first thing that Daniel did after Kylie asked him out was to tell his mom, Tonya, the good news.
“Someone took the time to take my son to homecoming? Words can’t describe what I’m feeling.” – Tonya Rivas.
Both Daniel and Kylie were looking forward to the homecoming dance. But then the FOX5 Las Vegas team heard about them, and they decided to make it extra special.
The news team showed up at Kylie’s house as the teenagers were getting ready. The couple was surprised and delighted to see them.
Then the news presenter, Monica Jackson, announced that they had arranged for the two to arrive at the dance in style. A Rolls Royce then pulled up to Kylie’s home.
The two kids then got in. But the car didn’t drive them to the dance right away. Instead, it took them to a casino that was also a fancy restaurant.
The meal the couple shared was especially great for Daniel. After high school, Daniel wants to become a chef, so this was an opportunity to see what he could achieve, as well as a treat!
Later, the couple arrived at the dance. The news team rolled out a red carpet for the two. All of the other kids at the dance cheered as they walked into the party.
Daniel and Kylie started dancing the night away with everyone else. But then Monica Jackson walked onto the stage and revealed that they weren’t yet done with surprising the couple.
Monica announced that Daniel, Kylie and both of their families were all going to Disneyland.
Could it get better than this? Yes. Another presenter walked up to Daniel and announced that once the young man was out of high school, he would have a $10,000 scholarship so that he could achieve his dreams. The presenter then revealed that he had another gift, this time for Kylie. But to know what this gift was, they would have to walk outside.
There was a brand new car waiting for Kylie, a Nissan Sentra.
And even then, the gifts kept on coming. Daniel was given a large amount of Avengers memorabilia and tickets to a Marvel event.
The video of this amazing outpouring of appreciation for Daniel and Kylie made its way onto YouTube.
It soon went viral. To date, it has gained almost six million views. It also has more than 28,000 likes and 2,200 comments. People have been saying things like this:
People like Kylie and Daniel show that the world is heading in the right direction.
