Due to circumstances beyond their control, Kirk Kellerhals and his birth mother would grow up not knowing one another. After almost 50 years, Kirk finally discovered the truth.
Thuy-Nga Thi Nibblet desperately wanted to raise her son. But her father would not accept a half-Vietnamese/half-American child.
During The Vietnam War, Thuy-Nga Thi became romantically involved with a US serviceman. Soon after, at the age of 17, she became pregnant.
The baby was born at the height of the conflict.
The moment when the baby was born, Thuy-Nga Thi’s father took the child away. He told his daughter that the baby was a boy, but he wouldn’t let her see the baby.
Immediately, the father took the baby to an orphanage.
By the time of the birth, Thuy-Nga Thi had lost contact with the baby’s biological father.
Two years later, an American family adopted the baby. They named the child Kirk Kellerhals and took him to America.
Kirk’s adoptive parents never hid the fact that he had been adopted.
However, Kirk assumed that he had ended up in an orphanage because his parents had been killed.
For almost half a century, Kirk lived with this assumption and got on with his American life. Then, out of the blue, he learned the truth.
Like many people, Kellerhals wanted to learn about his ancestry. So he submitted his information to an online DNA database.
A few weeks later, he received a strange email.
The email was vague. It gave a phone number and asked Kirk to call.
Confused, Kirk called the number.
A woman answered the phone and said, “I think you’re my son.” Thuy-Nga Thi was on the phone.
Soon, both of them shared their stories. Kirk’s date of birth matched with the day that Thuy-Nga Thi had given birth.
The DNA site had already told Kirk of a DNA match, but he had dismissed it as nonsense. But now he realized that, after so many years, he had found his mother.
It turned out that Thuy-Nga Thi was now living in America. But she was in San Antonio, Texas, while Kirk was in Virginia Beach.
Thuy-Nga Thi and her husband had soon arranged to travel to Kirk’s home.
After a long drive, Thuy-Nga Thi and her husband arrived. She opened the car door to see her child’s face for the first-ever time.
Right away, she embraced him and burst into tears.
Soon, Thuy-Nga Thi had also met her daughter-in-law and grandchildren. In just a few minutes, her family had grown significantly.
Over the next few days, Thuy-Nga Thi, her husband, Kirk and Kirk’s family began catching up with one another. Kirk finally learned just how he had ended up in an orphanage as a newborn.
Luckily, a news team captured the moment when Thuy-Nga Thi and Kirk were reunited.
The footage had since become highly popular. On YouTube, it has gained over 839,000 views. It also has more than 9,900 likes and 850 comments. People have been saying things like this:
It’s tragic to think that Thuy-Nga Thi’s father would force his daughter to give up her son. She and Kirk have missed out on so much. Finally, they have an opportunity to know and love one another.
