A teenager went shopping with his friends one day. When they saw street karaoke, they decided to stick around. Little did the teen know he’d become the star of the night.
For hours, the teenager and his friends had watched others perform great, not so great and awful karaoke.
It was getting late, and the karaoke was going to wrap up soon. The teenager made the decision to sing and put his name down.
The DJ called the teenager up. So the teenager took the mic.
The opening notes to the Queen song Bohemian Rhapsody started playing.
The original opening lyrics played on the track, meaning the teen had to wait to sing.
Then the teen took over from the line, “I’m just a poor boy, I need no sympathy.”
Everyone gathered around quietened down as he sang. They were in awe of his voice. Then, between the lyrics, they began cheering.
Passersby stopped in their tracks to listen to the familiar song with a new voice.
During the first instrumental transition of the song, the teen’s friends started shouting words of encouragement.
Those words of encouragement really made a mark. When the teen came back in with the lyric, “Mother, just killed a man,” he sounded more confident than ever.
He even encouraged the audience to sing along. He was becoming quite the showman!
Eventually, even a dog was bopping along to the music in the arms of her owner.
For the final section of the song, the DJ encouraged the teen to wave along to the music. The teen’s stage presence was improving with every second, even if the stage was a pedestrianized bit of road.
Then, just after the final line of the song, a huge cheer came from the crowd.
And by now it truly was a crowd! The teenager had stopped literally hundreds of shoppers in their tracks.
If only the kid had sung earlier. He’d have given the surrounding stores a lot more business!
Luckily, one of the teenager’s friends was filming the performance.
It then appeared on YouTube, where it went viral. To date, the video has gained over 2.7 million views. It also has more than 35,000 likes and 1,300 comments. People have been saying things like this:
Later on, the teenager decided to perform street karaoke again.
Once more, he chose to sing Bohemian Rhapsody.
And just like last time, the teenager managed to draw a large crowd. Naturally, he was much more confident this time around from the very beginning.
He has also recorded home performances of other songs.
A popular cover performance of his is of the song Defying Gravity from the musical Wicked.
Many people in the comments of the Defying Gravity video talk about how they’re amazed that the song works so well with a male voice.
There’s no denying that he does the song justice.
To date, this singer has not released any of his own material. But of course, this is how many musicians start out, and he’s still very young. Perhaps in the future, he’ll wow the world with his own original music?
