Couple marries after 55 years apart and finds the daughter they gave up for adoption as teens

True love can endure pain, trials, and even time. Even after many decades, the love that these two shared did not fade, and at last, they have found their happy ending.

While it looks like something out of a romance novel, it’s not.

This story is real. So, it wouldn’t be a surprise if it would inspire many romantic movies in the future.

Let’s go a few decades back. It was 1960; Brownton, Minnesota High School had a popular student named Dennis Vinar. He excelled in sports, and he was also good-looking. Many girls wanted to win his heart.

But Dennis had already fallen in love.

Vinar’s heart already belonged to Karen Lehmann, a simple, shy, and talented clarinet player.

“She was very special,” Vinar recalled in his interview with WUSA9. “I was always late for football practice because I was walking Karen home. That was much more important, I thought.”

Can you imagine how sweet they were? Puppy love or first love, it’s one of the best feelings that a person could experience.

However, like any romantic movie, Lehmann and Vinar encountered trials that eventually tore them apart.

Lehmann’s father didn’t approve of their relationship. He thought Vinar would only get in the way of his daughter’s future. Then, when he found out that his daughter was pregnant at the age of 15, he was furious.

He did everything to keep them apart; even sending his daughter to a home for unwed mothers. There, she gave birth to a baby girl.

Lehmann’s dad stopped Vinar from seeing Karen and the baby. Vinar tried his best to convince Lehmann’s dad that he was willing to take good care of his girlfriend and child, but the old man didn’t want them to be together.

Soon, even their daughter was immediately put into adoption.

Broken-hearted, Vinar and Lehmann decided to move on with their lives. Vinar, along with his family, decided to move away. Lehmann, on the other hand, left for college.

Even miles apart, this young man couldn’t forget about his one true love. He did so many things to reach out to Lehmann. He wrote letters and even tried to call her.

Lehmann’s dad was always on the lookout and made sure that everything didn’t reach his daughter.

“I went through hell to be with her,” Vinar was teary-eyed as he recalled. “And I couldn’t.”

After many years, Vinar and Lehmann learned to live without each other.

They eventually moved on and married different people. They also had kids and lived their lives for the next 5 decades without communication.

A few years back, Vinar received an invite to the social media network LinkedIn. He decided to sign up, and it came to him – why not search for the love of his life?

“I typed in ‘Karen Lehmann’ and there she was—the third person down,” said Vinar, all smiles. “And I smacked my hands together and said, ‘That’s my lady!’”

Another chapter opened for Lehmann and Vinar. We can call it a twist of faith, as Vinar found the woman he loved after 5 decades.

Vinar didn’t waste any time! He immediately called Lehmann the next day, and the two lovers were reunited.

Can you imagine being apart from each other for 5 decades and you meet again, still madly in love with each other?

They called each other three months straight. They talked and talked and finally, they decided to meet. There was no one stopping them because they were both single – but not for long.

Lehmann and Vinar tied the knot in 2015.

Everything was almost perfect. There was just one thing they needed to do – find the daughter that they had to give up.

Scared yet excited, the newly-wed decided to write to the adoption agency where they found Jean Voxland.

One day, Jean’s phone rang. When she answered, she was shocked to know that her biological parents were looking for her.

“My parents are together and they’re looking for me?” said Jean when she found out the purpose of the call.

Their story was even featured on the Steve TV Show, and the lovely couple even has their own book titled “How did you find me… After all these years?”

Their story is truly something that can make anyone cry. Love, when true, can overcome any challenges and even time apart.
