Two teenagers see an animal running through the street at night then realize it’s a toddler
Many adults are quick to pass judgment on teenagers.
They are assuming that they are always up to no good. That, however, is not the case.
Two teenagers from Mt. Juliet, Tennessee, went viral after putting their lives in danger to save a 3-year-old girl.
Dalaurence Holland and Zech Krinjnic, who were 15 and 13 years old at the time, were talking on Zech’s porch one night.
It was late at night, and the sky was dark.
Since there were no adults or parents around, the teenagers were simply chatting and enjoying the fresh air.
They were startled to see a form emerge from the bushes below around 10:15 PM.
“We were sitting on my porch up there, and then we were talking about clowns and stuff,” Zech recalled.
“And then, all of a sudden, we see this thing out in the middle of the road.”
The boys were perplexed by the phenomenon and decided to investigate.
“I don’t know,” Dalaurence admitted to NewsChannel 5.
“I guess I’m just a teenager and thought, ‘Let’s do something stupid and chase it and see what it is.’”
“When I saw it, I thought it was a fox or some other kind of animal.”
“I didn’t want anything to end up dead.”
Curiosity got the best of the teenagers, but it was all for the best in this situation.
Dropping their clown conversation, the two dashed towards the animal, hoping to save it.
When they got closer, they realized it wasn’t an animal, but a 3-year-old girl speeding down a busy highway.
The boys hadn’t realized it was a toddler at first, but time seemed to have stopped. There was no adult in sight, so the little girl was completely alone. Worse, they soon realized, there was a truck heading straight for her.
“I saw headlights coming up the hill,” Dalaurence explained.
“I was like, ‘There’s a truck. That’s a little girl. I’m going to grab it.”
Both teenagers dashed for the little girl, but Dalaurence arrived first.
There was no hesitation in either of their actions as they risked their lives. Dalaurence hurried into the street, reaching the toddler just seconds before she would have been hit by the running track.
Fortunately for the little girl, he snatched her away just in time.
“Everything in my mind just dropped.”
“My mind went clear, and I was focused on getting the kid.”
“A truck was coming up the hill, and right before it would have hit her, he scooped her up and ran out into the middle of both roads,” Zech recalled.
“We just jumped out in front of the truck. We didn’t look both ways. We just jumped.”
The little girl’s life was saved, thanks to Dalaurence and Zech’s heroic actions.
It’s unclear why the girl was on the road by herself. But her parents were later questioned by police following the incident, according to News Channel 5.
When Dalaurence and Zech’s story went viral online, the two boys received a flood of praise. Mt. Juliet officials later gave them a key to the city in recognition of their good deed.
Lisa Coffman, Dalaurence’s grandmother, said she’s glad the boys are getting attention for what they’ve done.
“They’re good boys, and they deserve to be recognized,” she said in an interview with the Lebanon Democrat. And Dalaurence, on his end, says that he feels “great”.
“It’s good for us to be known for the good things.” “It’s good for us good kids to be recognized, too.”
Thankfully, the brave teenagers were in the right place at the right time.
