Teen girls bully another girl in park until strangers decide they’ve had enough
Bullying in schools can harm the academic performance of those being bullied. To see how adults would react to a child they didn’t know being bullied, MattTV performed a social experiment involving three teens. The results might give you hope about the changing attitudes among adults about bullying.
Performing a social experiment
In a video, a teen girl is being bullied in the park by two other teen girls. Nearby sit adults who are unaware of what is going on. All they see is a young girl being bullied and harassed. Unknown to the adults, all three of the girls are actors and they have become unwitting participants in the social experiment.
A teen being bullied
The experiment starts innocently enough, as a young girl stands alone in the park. Nearby, two strangers sit, not knowing they are about to witness an act of bullying. As the girl stands there, two other teen girls walk up to her.
Soon, the bullying begins as the two girls make mean comments about the lone girl’s hair, glasses, clothes, and other items in her possession. The confrontation escalates as one of the bullies dumps the contents of her backpack on the ground.
Enough
In one instance, an adult woman has had enough, approaching the girls to admonish the two bullies for their behavior. Soon, she is asking the girls a series of questions, wondering how they would feel if they were treated like that?
“Why are you guys doing that?” the woman says in the video, followed by “You need to treat people how you want to be treated.”
It’s good to know that there are people out there who will stand up for others. It just goes to show that there are people out there willing to tackle bullies head-on, whether they know them or not.
The social experiment continues
Soon, the girls are performing in front of another adult, this time a woman sitting by herself. And, just like the adults before, she interjects when she sees the bullying going on.
She also imparts a little wisdom to the two “pretend” bullies, “Learn to treat everyone equally. We are all human beings… Everyone.”
In yet another instance, the three actors are interrupted by another woman, as the other bullies comment on the other girl’s clothing. The woman steps in almost immediately, giving the bullies a stern reprimand.
“Excuse me… Would you like if I threw your stuff on the ground?” she says, anger evident on her face.
And while you should take caution when confronting a bully, allowing bullying to continue is not the way. Even if you don’t want to say something yourself, alerting an authority figure, such as a police officer, is always an option.
