Police officers go viral for a lip sync challenge that has people eager to speed into their town

It all began with one police officer in June of 2018 â and he had no idea how far it would go.
That officer was Alexander Mena, a recruiting team deputy with the Bexar County, Texas, Sheriffâs Office. Bexar loved posting lip sync videos to Snapchat (hey, this was before Tik Tok was cool).
One day he sent a video of himself singing the Kumbia Kingsâ âFuiste Malaâ to his sergeant and it ended up on the departmentâs social media page.
The rest is history.

That video earned over a million views in a few months. But perhaps, more importantly, it challenged other officers to show off their silly side and join him in a challenge.
âWe wanted some positive stuff to come to the sheriffâs office. With some of the things that happen in law enforcement and with the media ⊠we wanted something more positive and for the community and our deputies to kind of connect together. ⊠I did not think that it was going to blow up the way that it did,â Mena told ABC News.
At first, it was a Texas thing. But then it went national and cops around the country were posting solo and group performances â some simple and endearing, others elaborate and choreographed. Many went viral.

One of those videos was posted by officers from the Cleveland, Tennessee PD. Their song was an unexpected choice â Camila Cabelloâs âHavana,â and their location was a stately home, presumably within the city limits.

After about 10 seconds into the video, there were plenty of viewers prepared to pick up and move to âthe other Clevelandâ â or at least speed through.
âA couple of your police officers made me wanna come speed in Clevland just to get pulled over by them.
â Just kidding. Great Videoâ

The production value was high, the officers were entertaining, and itâs an all-around fun video to watch as each man gets his turn in the spotlight.

Eventually, we end up in the back of the house. Itâs getting hot singing about Havana, so the officers take their moves to the pool.
âThis has got to be one of the best responses to the challenge yet!! Dang man you have some FINE looking men in Cleveland. Making me consider taking my auntâs advice to move there,â said one viewer.

And they do a little relaxing as well.
Clearly they havenât been called to the house for a disturbance â but theyâre about to make one!

And while everybodyâs talking about one dreamy officer, can we just mention how much we love this guy?!
âYour dept needs to put out a calendar..just saying. Fantastic job.â
AGREED.

This certainly isnât the way most of us normally view police officers. Seeing them sing and dance was certainly eye-opening. And itâs a good reminder that theyâre people who can be silly and fun-loving and have a sense of humor â just not typically when theyâre on the job.
But we imagine these officers werenât even in full gear throughout this shoot â or if they were that those walkie-talkies are waterproof!

The Lip Sync Battle was later co-opted by CBS who turned into a television show where viewers at home could vote on the top video. Our clever Cleveland officers didnât win, but they certainly made the Top 10 in our hearts!
