Texas couple takes in a stranded delivery driver for 5 days during the ice storms
Unless you’ve been living under a rock, you’ve probably heard about the tremendous snowstorms over Texas. In a scenario that no one anticipated (well, climate scientists did sorta….), most of the state has now frozen over and looks a lot like Hoth.
It goes without saying that this isn’t a fun time at all if you’re a Texan.

It’s as cold as the freezer cranked up to 5, there are power outages, and on top of it all, delivery services are having just as hard a time as you. But tough times are when human nature shines brightest, something Chelsea Timmons was incredibly thankful for.
Timmons is a delivery worker in Texas. She’d taken this time to acknowledge how much the people of Texas needed people like her.

Everyone needs their groceries, and with snow as far as the eye can see….let’s just say you couldn’t exactly make a quick tip to the grocery this time.
So Chelsea’s services were needed. If only she knew what she was getting herself into.
After a few delivery runs on the 13th of February (just before Valentine’s), Chelsea had one more stop to make. It was 11 a.m and she was prepared to call it a day after this one.
Unfortunately, the snow had other plans. Less-than-ideal road conditions cost her about an hour alone getting the groceries for the order.
On the way back to the residence that placed the order, she found that it sat at the base of an incline. And we all know inclines, snow, and cars mix about as well as Kool-Aid and brake fluid. Down the incline she went, tapping the brakes with every 1 or 2 meters she traveled.
Then, the exact thing she expected happened. Her car begun sliding, and she couldn’t regain control.
So the tapping on the brakes turned into slamming. Down the incline, her car slid, and Chelsea was obviously panicked a bit. Her car kept going, and it didn’t stop. She expected the worst. Instead, she got a flower bed that slowed the acceleration before a slumped tree put her car to a halt.
The good news was that she wasn’t going fast enough to damage her car upon impact. The bad news was that driving back in these conditions was out of the question.
There was so much ice on the ground that driving back out was pretty much impossible.
Chelsea unloaded the groceries for the couple that ordered them, and let them know what just happened. All the tow services weren’t available, naturally.
She’d briefly considered Lyft and Uber and realized how silly that was if even tow trucks couldn’t operate in this much snow and ice.
The couple who placed the order wasted no time offering to take Chelsea in. Food, a place to sleep, a roof over her head- pretty much everything she needed. They happily let her stay the night and cooked her a steak dinner too.
Chelsea was no longer their delivery driver. She was their guest.
Though they’d hoped that the situation would improve, it sure as hell did not. To the surprise of no one, of course.
So Chelsea stayed a bit longer, and the couple who took her in didn’t mind in the slightest. They were delighted to be of help to Chelsea, who went out her way to help them with their groceries in the first place.
They cooked her dinner, let her have a room, and their dogs bonded with her too.
Even more, as Chelsea kept checking if it was safe to drive back, they’d make sure she wouldn’t do anything to risk her safety. At any point that Chelsea suggested another place for her to go, they’d ask about her safety.
Could she make it there safely? How’d she deal with a potential power outage at that place?
They started sounding like concerned parents, which is a good thing.
“No worries, stay a bit longer.” – they told her whenever it seemed unsafe to go out.
Naturally, all of this moved Chelsea. She even mentioned crying thankfully in the guest room over the hospitality she was shown. She detailed all of it in a Facebook post, and couldn’t hold back how emotional these strangers made her.
Tales of kind strangers always make the rounds during tough times, but the great thing is that they never get old. Warmth, love, and kindness are the things that keep us going. Imagine if Chelsea were stranded elsewhere and these two hadn’t taken her in.
