When it comes to having a baby, many couples seem to warm up to the idea or feel out the possibility by first getting a dog.

This creates an amazing opportunity for a baby to grow up with a friend that’s always around. But, in these situations, it’s extremely important to pick a dog breed that is going to be gentle and patient.

Many people know that German shepherds make wonderful pets for families with kids because they are innately affectionate and playful. They can be incredibly loyal members of the family, and this GSD pup certainly matches that description.

This brief and charming video begins by showing a gorgeous German shepherd pup patiently waiting by his little sister and food bowl.

The curious baby girl happily passes over a tiny handful of kibble, but the pooch can’t quite nibble it out from between her fingers before it gets dropped to the floor. The dog then eats the kibble off the floor as the baby refills her hand with dog food.

The little girl turns back towards the camera to check that mum or dad is watching and smiles happily. The dog brings its head back up and patiently waits for more food to be handed over.

She’s SO good, most dogs aren’t nearly this patient. Other dogs would have finished the whole bowl before the girl turned around again!

Before feeding the next bit of tasty kibble to her dog, the baby girl pauses and raises a finger to share a cute idea in baby speak. After her adorable speech that only she (and maybe the dog?) could understand, the baby feeds another handful to the dog.

Watching this video, you can feel how badly the dog wants a bigger bite of food, but he is so patient and grateful for the meager 2 or three pieces that fit into that tiny hand.

The little girl raises another adorably puny handful of kibble and again doesn’t hand it right to the dog. Instead, she turns to face whoever is filming her to offer them some kibble too!

The smart dog knows that this is not people’s food and reminds the girl that he is waiting for his next bite by nuzzling her tiny fist.

That bite turns out to be the last one the German shepherd has the patience to wait for. When the baby stops feeding him and loses herself in playing with the dog food, the kind dog takes matters into its own paws, going face-first into the bowl of food and feeding himself while the little girl feels around in the remaining morsels.

The video ends at this point, and we can imagine the dog’s owners take the little girl away so that the patient pooch can eat in peace.

There’s something truly magical about the relationship between children and animals, especially when they get the chance to grow up together. This example of such an adorable duo has made all of our hearts melt.
