Woman wants everyone to crochet during quarantine with these amazing tiny animal designs

It’s clear that 2020 is a year that will not be easily forgotten, and it’ll be a year with many months of isolating inside our homes. Of course, there’s not really that much you can do while in quarantine, and people tend to get bored pretty easily and quickly. Anastasia, a woman from Russia, definitely knows how to spend her time while she’s at home: by crocheting.

And it totally makes sense too. Crafting things actually helps to relieve stress as well as anxiety, and it keeps your mind off more worrying things. Of course, there’s also a beautiful end result waiting for it if everything goes well. All you need is a hook and a bit of yarn or embroidery floss, depending on how complicated you want your fuzzy creates to be.

Anatasia’s adorable tiny dragons have gone viral on the internet, and for good reason.

And you can make them too! At least, if you’re willing to learn the basics of embroidery and have a bit of patience. The dragons are, without a doubt, Anastasia’s most popular creations and would look absolutely perfect anywhere in the home, or it could be a cute keychain, for example.

The woman has her own Etsy store, where she uploads pdf-files of the crocheting patterns of the dragons, as well as a bunch of other animals. For this particular dragon, it’s expected that you already know what you’re doing when it comes to crocheting. And if you’re a total beginner, you can always check YouTube from some detailed and well-explained tutorial videos.

“While in all of my patterns, I explain in great detail how to make the specific toy featured in the pattern, my patterns are intended for crafters who already have at least basic experience in crocheting stuffed toys. The basics of crocheting are not explained in the patterns! If you have never before crocheted an amigurumi, but want to make one of my toys, I recommend that you first turn to YouTube videos to make yourself familiar with basic crocheting vocabulary and techniques commonly used in crocheted stuffed toys. Please pay attention to the crochet notation – my patterns are written in US notation. After having prepared yourself in this manner, you can confidently return to one of my PDF tutorials and tackle it!”

Crocheting these adorable animals with yarn actually has a name: amigurumi. The term originated in Japan, but it is known around the world.

Ami translates into something ‘knitted or ‘crocheted’, while ‘nuigurumi’ which loosely translates to ‘stuffed doll’.

These creatures really are tiny – to give you an example, the dragon is smaller than an inch tall! The adorable mythical beast measures at just 20 millimeters and its tiny size make it an even cuter sight on your desk. It’s essential that you use embroidery floss instead of yarn, otherwise, you’ll end up with (much) larger creatures.

While some people might be disappointed that you can’t actually buy these dragons outright, there’s definitely something special about making one yourself. And if you’re good with a hook and needle, following these guides shouldn’t be an issue at all. Besides – when you make one yourself, you get to choose the colors for yourself and can customize the animals further to your liking.

And there’s plenty of more cute creatures aside from these dragons, be sure to check out Anastasia’s Etsy store for the whole collection.
