Tiny puppy is abandoned in bag until rescuers find him crying and covered in worms
Bobby was only 5 weeks old when he was found by a passerby in County Meath, Ireland. When volunteers from Dog Rescue Coolronan arrived, they found the pug crying behind a bush. The poor pup was suffocating in a plastic bag and covered in worms. The shelter workers rushed him to the vet where doctors were not sure if he would even survive.
Bobby is rushed to the animal shelter for help
“Apart from [being] left to die in a plastic bag he’s skin and bone full of worms and way too young to be away from his mum, he has an issue with one of his back legs which will be checked out by our vets,” the shelter wrote in a Facebook post.
First off, he was weak, being so young without a mother. His back legs were weak and he was starving. Chris Kelly, the administrator of the shelter, was struck by Bobby’s situation. He took it upon himself to personally make sure that Bobby was taken care of. And with Kelly’s nurturing, Bobby eventually recovered.
Bobby is able to recover quickly
“He’s doing well this morning and eating like a little savage,” the shelter wrote in an August 4 Facebook post.
Only a week later and Bobby had gotten back his appetite and had put on some much-needed weight. According to shelter staff, Bobby has the unique ability to make a connection with everyone he meets. It was with this in mind that they put out a call for someone to adopt little Bobby.
“He is a great little fella. He had to be wormed and he had a leg injury, but he is doing really really well,” Kelly, who runs Dog Rescue Coolronan, told the Irish Mirror.
Everybody wants to adopt Bobby
Bobby received over 600 adoption applications from people looking to adopt him. It was his caretaker Kelly who eventually ended up adopting the puppy. Kelly and the shelter are using Bobby’s story to emphasize the need to fight cruelty to animals.
“I’m rescuing dogs 13 years and I never have been attached like this,” he said. “I just thought he should stay with me and we all agreed he was attached to me and why ruin that for him, he has already suffered enough.”
What you can do if you can’t care for your dog
Workers at Dog Rescue Coolronan has taken it as their mission to give dogs a better life and help them find an adoptive home. To that end, the organization rescues and rehomes dogs, including strays and dogs whose owners are no longer able to care for them.
