Tiny rat always runs to giant dog friend so he can take the coziest naps
Nuka is a German shepherd who’s often praised for his beautiful, shiny black fur, but did you know that Nuka is also one of the friendliest dogs you’ll ever see?
Raising pets is comparable to raising our own kids. We need to keep them protected, healthy, happy, and of course, teach them the difference between right and wrong.
Judging him by the way he treats his unconventional rat friend, we’d say Nuka’s humans have done a standup job in raising him.
Nuka is the perfect example of a dog that has been raised to grow with and love all creatures, big or small.
This beautiful German shepherd grew up surrounded by all kinds of animals, and you might just be surprised to know how many inter-species friends he keeps.
Apparently, his gentle and loving nature is something he was born with.
“Our vet said, when he was younger, that he was wise beyond his years … because he’s generally so placid and relaxed,” Nicole Yates shared with The Dodo.
Nicole already knew from the start that Nuka was special.
He has always been really friendly to other creatures and has always been very gentle with them too.
However, Nicole was still surprised when she saw how Nuka accepted a tiny rat in their home.
In April, one of their local pet shops was searching for homes that would gladly take in and foster some of their animals.
It was an urgent matter especially due to the rising cases of Covid-19.
Nicole and her family decided to welcome Blue, a gray and white rat who seemed to know exactly where he belonged; with Nuka!
Blue was full of love and always seeking comfort… and he found what he was looking for.
“There was this immediate clear connection between Blue and Nuka compared with my other rats,” Nicole shared. “It was more so Blue who seemed to adore Nuka! He loved snuggling into Nuka’s fur and if I put him down on the floor he would run to find Nuka.”
It was an instant connection but an unlikely one too.
Just looking at their sizes, you’d think that Blue would be intimidated by Nuka’s size, but nope.
He loved Nuka right from the start!
Nuka was instantly fond of Blue as well.
According to Nicole, when Nuka was just a puppy, she trained him to gently lie down every time he enters a room with small animals. This way, the animals wouldn’t get startled and he would also learn to relax around them.
It worked! Once Nuka settles in with the little animals around him, he can start to play with them. Of course, Nuka has learned to be as gentle as possible.
What’s amazing is that the tiny animals seem to know that Nuka is a gentle giant! They never get scared of their big and fluffy Nuka.
As for Blue, well, he loves to cuddle with Nuka.
His warm and soft fur is the perfect resting place for this tiny rat.
“Blue is a very placid rat so he’s really happy just being with Nuka and laying there with him, either snuggled into his mane or at his belly,” Nicole proudly tells The Dodo. “Nuka likes to bathe Blue with licks, which Blue doesn’t seem to mind either.”
What a beautiful friendship!
