Cleaning expert shares ‘hidden compartment’ in toaster that most people didn’t know existed

Cleaning up isn’t exactly everyone’s favorite activity, but it something that just needs to be done nonetheless. And it’s just evident that the more stuff you have, the more you need to clean as well. Smaller appliances you use every single day definitely can’t get dirty for health reasons, and the bread toaster is one of the things that often need a thorough cleanse.

Of course, sometimes it’s pretty easy to overlook some spots in your appliances.

And one popular TikTok user shared a toaster secret that might surprise some.

Let’s face it – toasters aren’t exactly the most complicated things in the world, right?

Nobody would blame you if you’d just skip reading the manual altogether and just put your slices of bread in there to toast, but you might have overlooked something that can be considered pretty essential.

At the bottom of most pop-up toasters, you’ll find a nifty compartment that holds all the fallen bread crumbs at the bottom.

The breadcrumb tray might be super straightforward for some, but it’s an absolute eye-opener for others.

Cleaning up your toaster without knowledge of the crumb tray isn’t exactly an easy task. The TikTok video was shared by Katie (@thebigcleanco), and judging by the numerous comments, a lot of people had no idea that this toaster compartment even existed. Katie said that a lot of people recommend cleaning your toaster with a hairdryer, but for a quick cleanse, there’s definitely a better way.

“There are cleaning hacks going around the internet that are not really hacks at all, they make it harder. This week I was sent one. ‘Clean your toaster with a hairdryer. Just tip it in the bin,” she said in one of her videos.

At the time of writing, Katie’s video has amassed almost a hundred thousand views.

Luckily, Kacie is more than happy to share all her tips online, and she even responds to people asking questions online.

For example, there was one person in the comments who was dealing with some stubborn water stains after a shower and wanted to get rid of them.

Katie was more than happy to provide a satisfying answer and knew just the perfect trick. She recommended rubbing down the stains with a non-scratch sponge, along with some paste, Gumptions, or Bar Keeper’s Friend powder. After letting it do its job for a few minutes, you can just rinse off the stains easily.

“Both of those just scrub onto the screen and wash off as long as the glass isn’t etched it should come off pretty good,” the TikTokker explained.

She even gave another excellent bathroom cleaning tip.

With one of those cool-looking dishwashing wands, you can make cleaning the shower a much quicker and easier experience. Just fill the wand with your favorite soap or cleaning product, and rinse with water afterward.

And did you know you can easily clean your oven without any toxic chemicals?

This can definitely be considered dirty work, and it’s quite difficult if not impossible if you don’t know what to do. The best method is to preheat your oven slightly – that way, the grease will be a lot easier to remove as it has softened up. Of course, be careful and make sure that the oven isn’t too hot to handle while cleaning. Before you get started, sparkle bicarbonate soda all over and use a damp steel wool scrubbing pad to clean it.

That place underneath the fridge might seem impossible to clean, but Kacie stresses the importance of giving it a thorough cleanse every six months – even if that means moving the fridge temporarily.

With more than a quarter-million followers on TikTok, or as Kacie likes to call it, CleanTok, her cleaning advice is clearly much appreciated by the internet. You can check out her TikTok page for more excellent tips and tricks.
