Amala had been caught red-handed. But then she thought up an “ingenious” way of getting out of trouble.

A toddler recently went viral for doing the strangest thing: she tried to sneak a snack when she thought no one was watching.

Can you believe such a thing? Everyone knows that toddlers hate snacks and would never act in a selfish manner.

Ok, perhaps the whole trying to sneak candy thing was pretty normal toddler behavior. But what she did next was truly worthy of viral fame.

Amala’s grandma, Christina, was watching her while her parents were enjoying a much earned night to themselves.

The toddler could tell that her grandma was a little less alert than her parents. So she realized that there was a strong possibility of getting some extra treats.

So when Christina was distracted with her book, Amala snuck off into her grandma’s kitchen. She started rummaging through any cupboard she could reach. Eventually, she found what she had been searching for: a packet of gummy bears.

So she lifted the packet up. But then something she hadn’t counted on happening happened.

Christina’s dog heard the rustling of the packet. The dog rushed in, wanting to get his share of the treat.

The dog’s whining for the treat then alerted the grandma.

When Christina walked into the kitchen, Amala had no place to run. The grandma saw what was in Amala’s hand and asked her what she was playing at.

Amala was frozen in sheer terror. Her mind was racing. What could she do to get away with her snack?

Christina then said, “Amala, put it back.”

Amala closed her eyes. It was the only solution she could think of. If Christina thought that she was asleep, she would leave her alone. Right?

“You hear me,’ the grandma said. Still, Amala stayed still with her eyes closed. The sleeping act would probably look convincing any second now.

Christina then told Amala to open her eyes. The toddler refused to listen.

Eventually, Amala realized that the jig was up. She opened her eyes and smiled to her grandma.

Then, reluctantly, she put the candy back where it came from. She would have another chance soon, she hoped.

Luckily, Christina was filming the moment when she caught her granddaughter sneaking the gummies. She uploaded the video to Facebook, where it soon went viral.

In the space of a month, the original upload alone has gained over 2.2 million views. It also has more than 20,000 reactions, 38,000 shares and dozens of comments. People have been saying things like this:

Soon, the video had spread to a range of other media. The clip even appeared on Today.

Like so many others, the presenters absolutely fell in love with Amala’s sneaky antics.

Of course, Amala learned a valuable lesson when Christina caught her: Be more cautious next time! Just think how much more delicious those gummy bears would have been because they had been snuck!
