Dad and toddler daughter get into an adorable argument and we can’t figure out who won

When a video has been viewed over 48 million times on YouTube – even if it’s been posted for years – you know there’s something to it.

And while a dad and toddler arguing might not sound particularly compelling, even those of us who don’t have kids or understand baby mayhem can get a good laugh out of this 2015 upload.

Little Lola was already turning 5 when the video was posted, but she was just 15 months old in this clip with her dad Gareth Roe.

She’s standing on a table (where it seems she shouldn’t be – and she should know it). Roe is unamused and taking her to task for doing something dangerous.

We assume by the way the video picks up in the middle of their conversation that mom was perhaps standing by and sensing that this was going to be hilarious.

Meanwhile, Roe, with a charming Irish accent, tells Lola to get off the table. But Lola is NOT ok with being told what to do! This sassy little lady stands up for herself!

We can’t understand most of her toddler babble but when dad says “get your butt down off that table” and points at the ground, we distinctly hear a defiant “no” as she remains in place.

No matter how many times dad points to the ground and tells her to get down, she’s got a reply – and a loud one at that.

Sometimes it even involves wild gesticulating.

After the video went viral, Roe, who works as an analyst for Google Maps in Dublin, told ABC News:

“Lola climbed onto the TV stand to pull the clothes from the clothes line and I caught her in the act. We often play-fight, and had been going at it for a few minutes before Aimée [Lola’s mom] picked up her phone and started to record us.”

It turns out this wasn’t the first skirmish. Apparently, Lola can sense the change of tone in her dad’s voice and, instead of getting scared that she’s getting in trouble, she’ll prepare her counterattack!

“She’ll sense the tone in my voice and challenge me if she thinks she can win; a little too clever!” Roe joked.

The family was shocked the video was shared so widely. In fact, in the mere days it took to accrue 125,000 views on YouTube, it had already been seen 5 MILLION times on Facebook!

“Before I knew it I was being tagged in multiple Facebook video links from Ireland, the U.K. and even the United Arab Emirates,” Roe told ABC News. “It’s all been pretty startling; I just wish I wasn’t wearing my pajamas in the video.”

Alas, we can’t always choose how good we’ll look when videos go viral.

As for their play argument, Lola’s dad says it doesn’t matter if his daughter was countering his warnings with gibberish, he doesn’t talk to her in baby talk. He likes to build her vocabulary and confidence by speaking to her straight.

“It builds the confidence,” the loving dad explained. “If Lola has anything going for her, it’s sass! She’s very sassy but also very sweet. I wouldn’t have her any other way.”

That’s a good thing too, because we have the feeling Lola isn’t going to grow up to become a shrinking violet!
