Kids know more than we think, they have a healing energy that is truly unexplainable. When this elderly man loses his wife he falls into a deep depression until a little girl, and a random hug changes everything. The chance encounter quickly went viral, and the two remained friends all the way up until the man passed away this past February.

This proves little kids can sense things that adults just can’t.

Dan Peterson was swallowed by grief when his wife passed away, but one little girl helped him through it with a hug and an unlikely friendship

At the time, Norah Wood was only 4-years-old when she approached Dan at the grocery store. The elderly man had been depressed for the past 6-months, when Norah, reached out from her mother’s shopping cart and said:

“Hi old person, it’s my birthday today,” she then demanded a hug and Dan replied: “A hug? Absolutely.”

Dan and Norah embraced while she stood on the seat of the shopping cart, from there, the friendship began

To most people, a hug wouldn’t seem like a huge deal, but it was to Dan. With the situation he was in, he was struggling to figure out his purpose in life with his wife gone. Norah’s mother explained with surprise, how her daughter zeroed in on the “old person.”

“She zeroed in on him like a missile, but she didn’t want anything from him. She just wanted to make him feel loved and give him a hug.” Norah’s mother told CBS News as she fought back tears.

At that moment, Norah had no idea what she had just done for Dan

Dan was taken aback, his lip quivered as he got tears in his eyes and said:

“You don’t know, this is the first time for quite a while that I’ve been this happy,” he told CBS News.

From that moment on, Norah started visiting Dan at least once a week

The compassionate little girl formed a bond with Dan like no other, every time she visited, the encounters’ were full of hugs and laughter. She would even fall asleep holding a picture of him!

“She opened me to a love that I didn’t know existed,” Dan explained to CBS News

Norah’s final visit came the day before Dan passed away

For years, Norah would come to hang out with Dan once a week, they’d stroll Dan’s garden together and just enjoy each other’s company. Dan even went to Norah’s kindergarten graduation. The day before he passed away, Norah and her little sister, Miracle, visited him one last time.

Norah and her mother attended Dan’s funeral, where his brother told the story of the little girl who saved his life and gave him a purpose. The encounter went viral on YouTube, touching millions of hearts.

The original video was viewed more than 2.5 million times, with 72k liking the heartwarming encounter

On top of the millions of views and 72k likes, thousands of people left heartfelt comments for the two unlikely friends.
