Working in the police force means being prepared for things to go South. Even if they may not happen often, being ready to give chase or stand in the face of danger is a constant requirement.

This is true for man and man’s best friend, but it doesn’t mean they go home with this serious attitude every night.

After all, we all need rest and the comfort of home, and so do dogs. Sonny here is part of Clinton Police Department’s K9 force. He spends a lot of time riding shotgun with his dad, Jason.

All that time spent in the car has really strengthened the bond between this good Shepherd and this officer.

While they have their serious, work attitude among them during the day, that all comes off when their shift’s over.

Their bond has gotten nothing but stronger from all those workdays together. Sonny is loving and perceptive. He knows when Jason is trying to tell him something, he usually knows Jason’s feelings, and he will stay put until Jason comes back.

And once Sonny gets back home, he flips a switch and activates stay-home doggy mode.

When he’s in stay-home doggy mode, the one thing that he loves just as much as his dad is his sister – Jason’s toddler daughter. The little girl treats Sonny like her giant playmate and toy at the same time, and the German Shepherd does not mind one bit.

Whether she’s bumping into him, playing with his toes, hugging his face or burying herself in him, Sonny takes it like a champ. He absolutely loves and adores Jason’s daughter, and would probably do anything for her.

Sonny isn’t a perfect dog, but that doesn’t matter. No dog is.

Jason admits that Sonny has been stubborn and difficult in the past. They’ve been in disagreements that ended with frustration, but that’s hardly done anything to sour their bond.

It definitely doesn’t affect his bond with Jason’s daughter, though. Jason remarks that Sonny was the biggest part of their life before they had a child, and now they get to share the love.

Sonny truly acts like her big brother, and he’s getting another baby sister too since Jason and his wife are expecting another baby girl.

Jason says they can’t wait, and I’m sure Sonny can’t either. With two baby girls in the house, who better to have as a big brother than a loving, protective German Shepherd?

Sonny’s going to have the time of his life helping to raise Jason’s daughters.

The unconditional love and affection from a family dog is near-irreplaceable, and Jason’s two girls will get to experience all of that from their canine big bro.
