Tourists stop to let grizzly bear mama and her cubs cross the road
Have you ever experienced driving down the country lane and seeing wild animals beside the road? Perhaps you’ve waved at them or took pictures as you pass by. They can be pretty amazing to look at, but there are certain situations where you have to share the road with them.
You see, when you’re driving down a country road, chances are you’ll get to meet some of these animals.
Creatures such as deers, birds, koalas, and badgers are common in these forested areas. We often see them minding their own business on or off the road.
However, there are a few occasions where sightings of animals that you often don’t see emerge from the forest. And when they do, you’re going to wish to experience this once in a blue moon moment!
This is exactly what happened when a grizzly mama bear helped her four cubs cross the road in Wyoming.
Tourists were shocked and amazed at the sight that footage was taken to capture this rare moment.
It was a normal day in Grand Teton National Park. The tourists were enjoying the rich mountain valleys, lakes, rivers, and blue skies while others took photos of the wildflowers and forest. Aside from the natural scenery offered by the park, it is actually home to a wide variety of animals.
One of them is the grizzly bears as stated from their website:
“Black bears and grizzly bears thrive in Grand Teton National Park and the John D. Rockefeller Jr. Memorial Parkway. You may encounter a bear anywhere at anytime. Some of the most popular trails pass through excellent bear habitat. Bears will usually move out of the way if they hear you approaching.”
Despite knowing that the park is home to a diverse array of wildlife, it is still a sight to see when a mama bear crosses a busy road with her cubs in broad daylight.
Based on the video shared by one of the tourists, a grizzly mama bear and her four cubs were seen walking down a grassy hill towards the road. Realizing this rare moment, the cars were asked to stop while the onlookers pulled out their phones and cameras to capture the moment.
Intent on guiding her cubs, the mama bear ignored their audience and focused on the task of guiding her cubs across the road. She didn’t even spare their audience a glance as she walked across the road and into the safety of the forest. Her four cubs were so cute as they stick together and followed their mama bear knowing they were safe with her.
They made it across the road without any harm while their onlookers were left in an awed state.
If you’re lucky to catch a rare sight like this one, the Teton National Park has some advice to keep you and the bears safe.
They advise that you:
- Resist the temptation to stop and get close to roadside bears.
- Help keep bears wild and humans safe – Never feed or approach bears!
- Do not leave food, garbage, or coolers in the open bed of a truck or the exterior of any vehicle.
- Stay 100 yards from bears even if you are in your vehicle.
- Use designated pullouts when viewing bears and stay with your vehicle.
- Follow directions from National Park Service Staff.
- Use binoculars or spotting scopes for safe viewing.
Catching this rare and beautiful moment was definitely a joy. We hope that the bears made it safely back to their home.
