Trembling Beagle who spent her whole life in a lab finds perfect forever home
According to the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA), about 60,000 beagles are bred and used for animal testing and experimentation in laboratories each year.
These animals have been found to be used in animal research.
They are reused.
Then, finally, they’re euthanized when they are no longer useful for the studies.
Sadly, the docile nature of this breed makes them victims of abuse by humans who test pharmaceuticals and other products on them.
It’s wrong, and it won’t last.
The Humane Society of the United States has been trying to save as many of these animals as it can.
They have recently been asking companies to stop euthanizing beagles that they don’t use for testing anymore.
They have been putting pressure on them to give the pups up for adoption.
One beagle recently rescued is Ella.
Ella didn’t know life outside the lab.
The sweet pup had spent her whole life in a laboratory until she was rescued and fostered by Lori.
The pup had never been outside, she had only been in her cage until Lori took her home, and that’s why the dog couldn’t stop shaking at first.
Ella only knew how it feels to be locked up. She had no idea she could run free in a room or outside, she didn’t even know there were toys and fun things to do.
During the first days in Lori’s home, Ella would sit at the same spot and would not even move unless Lori brought her outside.
But even then, she didn’t feel comfortable and her foster mom would have to take her back inside.
“I would have to carry her back in because she was so deathly scared of the wind,” Lori told The Dodo.
As the days passed, Ella started feeling safe in her new home, and she even started getting playful.
She spotted the buttons on the back of Lori’s couch, and she would peck on them trying to rip them off.
She started showing her puppy colors.
One day, Lori was shocked when Ella approached her and in a way asked for a hug.
Little by little, she even found out she had a tail she could wag. Wagging her tail was a sign she was really opening up and getting out of her shell.
Lori was so happy to see her little friend go from terrified to playful and happy.
Time for a true test – toys.
The woman tried giving the dog a small ball, which Ella didn’t know how to handle.
After experimenting a little, she realized the ball could roll and she could have so much fun with it.
Ella began to blossom.
Eventually, Ella, who could do nothing but shake uncontrollably when she first met Lori, became the goofy puppy she truly is and she was ready to be adopted.
Lori was sad to let her go, but she was also overjoyed to see this little pup find a forever home and receive all the love she deserves.
Truly heartwarming!
