Garbage truck driver discovers abandoned puppy in a backpack on the side of the road

Aaron Kinsel is an employee of Rumpke Waste and Recycling.

As a truck driver, he operates the garbage truck around Colerain Township, a bit outside Cincinnati. He picks up discarded stuff all the time and loads them into the truck. Though just because something gets discarded doesn’t mean it should be left that way.

It was a backpack right in the middle of the highway, and it was moving. Aaron caught a visual of the movement even in his moving truck, and he stopped to inspect.

He got down for a closer look. As he inspected the bag, he was in for one heck of a surprise. There was a puppy inside – a 10-week old female Boxer-mix. She’d been tossed into a bag and left on the road.

Just about anyone would be shocked. I’m sure Aaron was.

He took the abandoned puppy into the truck and cared for it. You’d have to be incredibly unempathetic and cold to toss a puppy away in a bag. On the highway, no less.

To abandon an animal on the streets is bad enough. Tossing a young and defenseless one in a bag to throw away; now that’s something else. Let’s hope whoever did this doesn’t come across any more puppies.

She was taken to a vet and treated for dehydration and a broken leg. Poor thing.

It’s fortunate that Aaron found her. She probably wouldn’t have survived if he didn’t. If a vehicle didn’t hit her, then the dehydration probably would have taken her.

Thanks to the circumstances that led to this, Aaron immediately felt drawn to the puppy. It was almost like he was supposed to save her before he even saw the bag.

“I felt like I was meant to find her.” – Aaron Kinsel said when Rumpke Waste and Recycling shared the story on Facebook.

He made the logical next step and adopted her. Kinsel named her “Tipper”, after the mechanism behind garbage trucks that lifts the garbage containers for them. This was the most valuable thing he’d picked up in all his years collecting garbage and unwanted stuff.

How poetically ironic for a puppy discarded like garbage to be found by a garbage collector. And one who decided to keep her, no less.

Rumpke Waste and Recycling didn’t hesitate to give Aaron his due praise for rescuing the puppy. They said on Facebook :

“We are very proud of Aaron and delighted to make Tipper an honorary member of our Rumpke team.”

Tipper now has the home and family she deserves. If only she’d be the last pet to be tossed away on the road. We’ve got some way to go before the number of abandoned, mistreated animals is zero.

However, people like Aaron Kinsel can make a world of difference for the animals that end up being found.

This little story of Aaron saving Tipper has one truly happy ending, and it’s an ending more people should see. Share this article with them!
