Turkish officials making sure stray animals get food and clean water during crisis
Since the Covid-19 pandemic started, a lot of things have changed. Amusement parks, malls, and parks that used to be filled with people are now deserted.
People are afraid to go out and we are all terrified of the virus that has claimed so many lives. What’s happening around us isn’t something that we planned, yet here it is.
In fact, it has taught us so many realizations in life, from valuing our health and family to being compassionate to others, including and especially animals.
Despite the worry that the COVID-19 pandemic has brought us, Turkey’s Interior Ministry had recently released a letter that addresses something that most of us have forgotten – the stray animals.
The letter addressed the concern of the officials about the welfare and care of their country’s stray animals.
It was a concern that has been overlooked by most people.
The letter had details about their social distancing policies and how this could have a huge effect on the cities’ strays.
Turkey’s Interior Ministry then encouraged its local administrators to take action. They suggested that they should leave out fresh food and water for the stray cats and dogs regularly.
They have designated locations where they would put in enough food and water so that these strays won’t starve or get dehydrated.
It’s a brilliant idea!
Because of the stay-at-home rules that are being implemented, the streets are almost empty and this has greatly affected stray animals.
As Turkey’s Interior Ministry suggested:
“Food and water will be left at the living environments of street animals such as parks and gardens and particularly animal shelters.”
This way, the stray animals would know where to go when they need to feed.
No cat or dog will go hungry.
Did you know that most stray animals in Turkey are being vaccinated by their respective local vets?
It’s actually a part of their culture and for Turkish society, these animals are important and they will make an effort to provide them their needed vaccinations and even food.
Many of their citizens raised their concerns about wanting to help and this program is the best way to still look after their strays.
The Covid-19 pandemic death toll and the number of people who have been infected are still rising.
That’s why their government is still thinking of ways of how they can ensure the safety of their people as well as decrease the number of people getting infected.
According to Johns Hopkins University’s website, there are already over 112,261 cases that have been confirmed in Turkey and 2,900 lives that have been claimed.
The worldwide confirmed infections have already reached more than 3M cases and more than 200,000 deaths.
The data being shown is very alarming and people all over the world are trying their best to find a vaccine to fight the deadly virus.
Our safety is very important but let us not forget that these animals that need us, even and especially if they are strays, also need our help.
They need to have clean food and water, and Turkey’s program is definitely an inspiration not just to us but for the whole world also.
Don’t forget to share this amazing story to inspire and to remind us that there are stray animals that still need our help.
