Young Ukrainian woman loses her life while delivering supplies to local dog shelter

The events unfolding in Ukraine have made tons of people feel unsafe. Most of them evacuated while others are trapped and being rescued.

While most people choose to leave Ukraine, 26-year-old Anastasiia Yalanskaya insisted to stay.

Her family and friends tried to convince her to leave as well but she preferred to remain in the area. Even her husband’s plea to think about evacuation wasn’t heard.

The young woman was very determined to help others.

Born and raised in Kyiv, Anastasiia was strongly committed to helping anyone in need. The war was no match for her determination.

To keep herself safe, she slept in an underground car park in an attempt to avoid bombs. Even though her situation was scary, she seemed determined to remain positive.

Anastasiia was able to document everything on social media.

She shared how she was able to help a nursery with around 40 children that struggled to get enough nappies and food. She even volunteered to help at a military hospital.

Her last mission was delivering food to a dog shelter somewhere in Bucha.

The shelter had had no supplies for about three days. And given the situation, it was not likely to receive any help unless someone volunteered to deliver food and other necessities.

Anastasiia was with two other men who were also volunteering during the crisis.

Hours before her death, she was able to post an Instagram story. In it, you’ll see her sitting in the backseat of the car. She was smiling while sitting beside bags of dog food.

Unfortunately, all three of them weren’t able to complete their mission.

Anastasiia’s best friend who evacuated to Vinnytsia felt something was wrong when she failed to hear anything from her after several hours. She reached out to the father of one of the men Anastasiia was volunteering with. He was supposed to meet them at his house after their trip.

Later, her family and friends learned that the car she used was deliberately targeted at close-range.

The three were able to deliver the supplies and were nearly home when the tragedy happened. In fact, they found the car not far from the home they were supposed to return to.

They weren’t able to find out why she was targeted. However, there were reports of Russian troops shooting civilians at random.

Her body hasn’t been formally identified.

However, she was carrying her driver’s license at that time. Plus, she had distinctive tattoos that her friends were able to identify.

The fighting continues to increase in intensity.

As a result, her body can’t be moved yet. Her body remains with the bodies of two fellow volunteers.

In an interview with Global News, Anastasiia’s husband shared:

“She was one of the best human beings I knew. She was committed to helping, to help her friends and relatives and whoever needed help. She loved animals. We had a dog and a cat. She was the best partner I ever had.”
