Birthdays are always special occasions that deserve to be celebrated. Whether it’s a sweet 16 or you’re turning 55, it’s a special day for you, where your friends, family, and other loved ones offer gifts, hugs, and general good fun. At least, that’s the usual formula most people follow.

Others like to be a little different when celebrating the birthdays of their nearest and dearest, and two young men decided to honor their dad’s big day with a prank.

A big prank! A prank he’d never forget!

Chris Ferry, who lives in Atlantic City, New Jersey, was astonished when he woke up on his 62nd birthday, March 16 of 2019, and started getting one random phone call after another. The people on the phone were total strangers to Ferry, and some of them were calling from as far away as Europe and Africa!

The weirdest part of all was that the strangers all seemed to know it was Ferry’s birthday. They wished him a happy day, while others even called to let him know they had the same birthday or something special had happened to them on the same day in the past.

In total, Ferry estimates he got over 15,000 calls and texts that day, all from random people, far and wide, wishing him a happy birthday and sending personal greetings on his big day.

Eventually, Ferry decided to get to the bottom of this weirdness, so when one of the mystery callers rang him up, he asked them how they knew it was his birthday.

The caller simply responded, “It was on a billboard!”

You see, what Mr. Ferry didn’t know was that his two sons, Chris and Mike, had played a crazy prank on him. It was all Chris’ idea.

He thought it would be so funny to put his dad’s number on a billboard and see what happened. He called his brother Mike and asked what he thought about the idea. Mike burst out laughing, and the pair immediately knew they were onto something special!

Pulling pranks is a bit of a tradition for the Ferry family. Whenever they used to dine together at restaurants, Chris and Mike would trick the waiters and say it was their birthday, even though it wasn’t, just to see what would happen.

This prank was definitely the craziest they ever pulled though and the most expensive too! It cost Mike and Chris $2,000 to get the message posted on the billboard.

It simply said “Wish my dad Happy Birthday. Love, your sons.” and had a picture of Mr. Ferry sitting next to his phone number. Ferry even went out to see it with his own eyes, taking this selfie standing in front of it.

Chris could have reacted badly, but he said he tried to just “go with it” and had fun receiving so many random birthday greetings from strangers all over the globe.

Naturally, the story went viral and is inspiring countless people to think up funny pranks to play on their own parents for future birthdays.
