"Unadoptable" dog about to be euthanized becomes hero when he finds teen passed out in woods
Hero dogs come in all shapes and sizes, they use their instincts to do extraordinary things and save the day. Some pups get counted out, only to prove everyone wrong by doing something miraculous. That’s exactly what this pooch did after being labeled “unadoptable,” she was saved only hours before she was put down and ended up saving a teenager’s life!
There is an incredible twist to this story that you won’t believe!
Just hours before being put down, this “unadoptable” dog was rescued. Good thing she was, the pooch saved a teens life
Rhode Island State Trooper, Daniel O’Neil, dreamed of being in the K-9 unit his whole career and would often tell his colleagues about his dream. Until one day, he finally got the call he was waiting for!
The head of the K-9 unit called Officer O’neil, he informed him of an 8-month-old shelter dog named, Ruby, had been deemed “unadoptable.” Only two hours away from being euthanized, a volunteer at the shelter reached out to the Rhode Island Police to see if they could use the rambunctious dog.
Officer O’Neil finally got his wish, he was assigned Ruby and brought her home to his family
Ruby was welcomed into the O’neil family with open arms, but she had a funny way of showing her new family her love.
“Ruby ran right into the living room and left me a present,” O’Neil told the Today Show.
It wasn’t easy to train Ruby, but Officer O’neil knew he had to make it work
Training Ruby was an uphill battle, Officer O’Neil didn’t let her out of his sight for four months straight.
“Sometime’s I would look at other members of the K-9 unit, with their respective high-priced K-9’s bread for police work, and say, ‘how did I get this disaster?’ It wasn’t easy.” Said O’Neil.
Ruby eventually turned a corner and became quite the Police dog! She’s led the way on 10 missing person cases, 3 of which were found alive
In October of 2017, Ruby and O’Neil got called on another missing person case. The teenage boy had been missing for 36-hours after going hiking, the boy’s mom told the partner’s where he liked to hike and the search began.
Out of nowhere, Ruby bolted off into the woods. Once Office O’Neil caught up to his K-9 partner, he saw the boy lying face down with a severe laceration to his head. They immediately got him help, saving the boys’ life.
Officer O’Neil told the boys mother they had found him alive, understandably, she started to cry. Once she composed herself, the story took an unbelievable twist
Remember the volunteer trainer that had saved Ruby’s life all those years ago? Incredibly, Ruby had just saved her sons’ life! Seven years after, Pat, had reached out to the Rhode Island Police to see if they would take Ruby, she was calling them again, but to report her son missing. Little did she know, Ruby was going to return the favor hugely!
“The young man was rushed straight to the hospital and I went straight to the mother’s house to let her know. She was so grateful to hear the hopeful news she began to cry, when Pat Ingman composed herself she asked: ‘Do you know of a dog named Ruby?’ I was taken aback, I said “uh yes,” Ruby is my K-9 partner who just found your boy, she started to cry again she said: ‘I’m the volunteer trainer at the shelter who tried to rehabilitate Ruby as a puppy so she wouldn’t be put down.” Officer O’Neil explained.
