Uncle and niece give goosebumps singing unforgettable version of Marvin Gaye hit
12-year-old Bri’Anna Harper and her uncle Joseph Clarke have been melting hearts around the world with their soulfully smooth vocal cover of Marvin Gaye and Tammi Terrell’s version of “Ain’t No Mountain High Enough.” It’s a true American classic.
They never expected their performance would touch thousands of people around the world.
They look like normal, everyday people dressed in regular street clothes. The video appears to be taken in their living room, while they are on a suave brown leather couch.
Wow.
They picked a song perfect for these trying times.
The song was originally written by Motown songwriting duo Ashford and Simpson in 1966 and then released in 1967, peaking at 19 on the US Charts. “Ain’t No Mountain High Enough” was originally recorded by Marvin Gaye and Tammi Terrell.
In 197o, popular American singer Diana Ross released her own version. This time it peaked at number one on the charts. Ever since then, the song has remained ingrained in the American psyche.
A lot of people know the song and memorize the touching lyrics in their hearts. It even appears in a few memorable films. One movie in particular where it played an important role was in Remember the Titans.
Bri’Anna creates another layer with her fine voice atop the instrumentals. It adds a beautiful foil to Joseph’s lower registers.
She playfully motions to the camera while singing the words, “To keep me from getting to you.”
Their voices have their own strengths. Joseph sings a little more loudly, but Bri’Anna is not getting left behind. She has got undeniable raw talent. She’s found a perfect home under Joseph’s vocal wings.
They both give it all as they sing the iconic chorus together.
Naturally, the song ends with numerous repetitions of the chorus. This allows both vocalists to feature their skills.
The uncle-niece duo end their performance with a soulful bang.
This performance has touched thousands of people around the world. Both their YouTube and Instagram pages are filled with nothing but praise,
“Thank you so much for the tears of joy you gave me.”
Some of the comments are poetic,
“My ears, my heart, and the rest of me thanks you for this great moment of music!”
Listeners have nothing but the highest praise,
“I’m really blessed to witness something wonderful. Your voices are so warm and tender.”
The world is evidently very grateful to these two for sharing their talents and bringing smiles to thousands of faces. We hope they consider making an album in the near future. Maybe call it Goosebumps because that’s what we get from hearing them sing.
These days, we need music now more than ever.
