20 wacky and wonderful Christmas trees from people who refuse to be normal

We can’t decide if Christmas feels exhausting this year or like a reprieve from all the chaos.

The great thing about Christmas trees is that you don’t have to be celebrating Christmas to get one. You can be as creative as you want while decorating – as long as it gets you in the right frame of mind.

Some twinkly lights or interesting decor can really make your spirits bright.

These 20 people went a step further. Whether they made a slight twist on a traditional tree or went in a wacky direction, it shows you just how many ways there are to make winter wonderful.

1. The Pourover

Love traditional Christmas trees and ornaments but want something a little edgy:

This no doubt takes longer to create than your average spectacle, but you get a pretty fantastic result.

2. Bah hum bug

Wait, wrong Christmas crank.

We love the story of the Grinch – who really didn’t hate Christmas, he kind of just hated people.

If he’s your holiday spirit animal (so to speak), then this is certainly one way to get you smiling.

3. Tree malfunction

In no mood to decorate? It’s all good.

I work at a tech company, this is our Christmas tree from r/funny

If you still want a tree but none of the trouble that goes with decorating it, you have options!

4. Treezilla

Is the Grinch not enough? Do you need a complete annihilation of the season? Well…here ya go!

Godzilla will smash your holidays to smithereens (just like 2020 has done with the rest of our plans).

But just remember that there’s a new year around the corner.

5. Let it go

Do your kids love Frozen but your budget (or sanity) not allow for the complete princess treatment? Look no further.

White tree + minimal decor = Olaf.

Do you want to build a snowman?

6. Pre-Christian tree

These are Loebs – books with material from ancient Greek authors, with the Greek language printed on one page and the English on the other.

Into Socrates more than Santa? Go Greek. They were around before Jesus anyway, so they can’t judge your Christmastime choices.

7. Healthy holiday choices

Ok, we’re not making a vegetable tree any time soon, but we like the idea.

We think it could use a few candy canes though.

8. Raise the roof

Are you bursting at the seams to celebrate the season?

Cutting off the top of your Christmas tree and putting it on your roof (surrounded by a few extra shingles) will make everyone stop and stare!

9. Dolling it up

We find it terrifying, but if you’re into Barbie, this is always an option.

It is the time of year to enjoy memories of childhood though. So decorate with whatever you want!

10. Silent night

Holidays making you sleepy? Here’s your solution:

Well, you don’t want to use ALL of your pillows for this, but if you’re the kind of decorator that has too many, then this is pretty cool.

Easily knocked down though!

11. Temporary tree

Having a West Coast Christmas? Or spending holidays somewhere else nice and hot?

Just build your tree on the beach!

This is the kind of festive holiday we want to partake in!

12. We’ll have the lobster

Enjoy the finer things in life? Or just enjoy crustaceans?

There’s no rule against a lobster tree.

13. Ah, the symmetry!

Is it weird that we’re a little obsessed with this because it’s perfectly level and requires no adjusting?

Just add extra pine branches.

This is a great alternative to a tree if you have a ladder and some evergreen bushes in your yard.

14. “Pine tree”

Chris Pine, that is.

Get your Star Trek on and have a very nerdy holiday – whichever one they celebrate in space.

15. Tree storage

Turns out you can display much more on or in a tree than just some homemade or cheap globe ornaments.

Make your tree whatever you want. We especially love this idea for antique ornaments that need a good display.

16. PVC Christmas tree

These are just PVC pipes with ornaments stuck inside.

So great if you have some wall space to spruce up (no pun intended).

17. Work it

Into fasion? This is indeed a tree skirt – just not the kind you’re used to seeing.

We really love it – it just might creep us out in the dark though.

18. Climb into the holidays

We never thought of ladders as chic until we saw this.

It’s only a problem if you need a ladder during the holidays.

19. Blow it up

Is Christmas just not your aesthetic? Not into greenery? How about balloons?

There are truly no rules here, so let your mind go wild.

20. Bottoms up

The good news is that all you have to do is drink a lot of wine to make this.

Well, you have to find a very expensive custom rack too, but you can worry about that after the wine!

Happy Holidays and enjoy making things cheery around your home!
