Dog can’t believe UPS driver forgot to brings treat – sneaks into his truck to check herself
There has been a stereotype about dogs hating postal workers being perpetuated for decades, but what if we’ve got it all wrong? What if our four-legged pals are actually just going crazy with excitement every time they see the mail truck? When you hear about this dog hitching a ride with his UPS driver, you might end up rethinking how your dog feels about the person delivering your mail.
Many UPS, Fed-Ex, and other postal workers keep doggy biscuits to hand these days. They want to be able to give each dog on their route something to be excited about, too.
The only thing about giving a dog a cookie is that they’ll expect one every time they see you.
That’s what one UPS driver soon discovered when he forgot to hand out a treat to a dog on his route.
If you know anything about dogs, then you know that they are all about routine. If the UPS driver usually tosses them a treat when they show up, then that’s the routine! It’s pretty simple, really. They give you the benefit of their utterly adorable attention and let you safely pass through their territory. In return, they get the cookies. It’s a cookie-contract, or “policy”, if you will.
Well, you can imagine how disappointed this Golden Retriever was when the UPS driver rolled through and didn’t give him his goodies. Not one to break from routine, this pup was going to get that cookie.
So, he crept up into the back of the driver’s truck when he wasn’t looking!
Of course, the UPS driver eventually realized that they had a stowaway dog with them, probably by their next stop. It turns out this pupper’s house would be getting a double-delivery that day when the driver brought the retriever back home.
The dog’s owners decided their pup had gone a little too far for his cookie and figured a bit of dog-shaming was in order.
They uploaded the photo on a dog-shaming site and then Reddit, where it went viral. While you might think this is an incredible story, commenters on the post quickly proved that it’s a rather pawpular occurrence.
One commenter wrote that their dog has been trying to get back on any mail truck he can since hitching a ride home with the mail lady when she found him wandering from home.
Commenters filled the thread with stories of their dogs, cats, and even one label-loving goat that had broken into the mail truck for a free ride.
Some people in the thread said they didn’t believe this kind of thing could possibly happen, but clearly they’ve never taken a gander at the UPS Dogs Facebook page.
Yes, you read that right. UPS has an entire
Facebook page dedicated to sharing photos and stories of delivery drivers with their favorite doggos on their route.
A quick scroll through their page will show you hundreds of excited furbabies clamoring to climb up the steps of the big brown truck to get their treats and pats. When you see just how eager they are to hang out with their cookie delivery drivers, it makes the Retriever’s story seem totally plausible.
It turns out that our dogs aren’t barking at the postal workers because they don’t like them. They are just stoked to get their cookies.
When you look at it that way, can you really blame the doggo for going the distance for his dog biscuit? We sure don’t!
